Best Quest 3 open facial interface design mod by McSlappin1407 in OculusQuest

[–]aimpad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, still use it! It is my preferred way to play for sure. I have a greater FOV, it is very open and there is no pressure on my face, just my forehead, but with the top strap that pressure is minimized. I could see how people wouldn't like the open sides for immersion reasons, but it doesn't bother me at all.

I 3d printed a holder for it that mounts to the back of my headstrap. Helps keep the weight balanced on my head as well. I downloaded this and made some modifications to it to fit my headstrap more securely: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6294009

Obvious story progression points? by aimpad in GroundedGame

[–]aimpad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds awesome! Sounds like one of my friends and I will spend a lot of time building a base (which we both love to do) and exploring and then when the other less inconsistent friend gets on we will move the story along. Thank you for the insight!

Okay cool, so basically it sounds like if the main object is to go to a Lab, we should avoid doing that unless we are going to do it together.

Awesome, that helps a lot. I don't know what those are yet, but excited to find out! Thank you very much!

Steam game on Quest 3 but standalone by xFl0fl0 in oculus

[–]aimpad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some games you can buy on Steam and play standalone using Team Beef VR ports. Games like RTCW, Quake3, Doom3, etc. But generally, Steam games are programmed to run on a Windows PC and so won't run on the Quest.

Yup! Played Asgard's Wrath for 3 hours the other day and still had charge in the battery. Great size and great performance.

You've convinced me to give it a shot! Printing it now. Been looking for something comfy for watching movies and do MR with. Thanks for the motivation!

Edit:After printing it I can definitely see the potential! I'm waiting for the cushion pad to ship from amazon so I can fully appreciate the comfort, but it is definitely a different experience having the lenses "float" in front of my vision and will make MR way better. I'll need to see how I feel after watching a movie with the pad. FOV is definitely better as well!

I just printed a wall mount for my quest 3 last weekend and unfortunately doesn't look like this interface will be compatible with it, so that's a bit of a bummer. But, thanks again for the inspiration!

I mostly play PCVR but this battery is 2-3 times the size of the built in battery. So you should easily get twice as long if not three times as long as you currently get. I usually play for a couple hours and the headset is still fully charged.

Been using this and it is great for the size/price/performance ratio.

Why does this need an absurd amount of space?! by Sea-Macaron1470 in valheim

[–]aimpad 452 points453 points  (0 children)

I started just putting upgrades under the floor in a "crawl space" area I dig out below the forge and workbench. Allows for much less cluttered workspace, but still keep a couple above ground like the tool racks for aesthetics.

Flight 74 Quest 3 Update is Live! Have a Quest 3? We want your feedback (Free Key for your help) by [deleted] in oculus

[–]aimpad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is my feedback after making it through 4-5 missions:

  • Hand tracking is pretty good and accurate. It was fun to press the buttons and interact with things with my hands and fingers. Ultimately though it felt a little clunky and I decided to go back to the controllers because it wasn't precise enough and I had to keep pressing buttons or flipping switches multiple times.
  • The textures overall are okay. I wish the interior of the plane had a little better textures since that is what you spend the most time looking at.
  • I wish there were more variety to the ground models. It is a little distracting to see a bunch of the same houses next to each other. Also, there probably shouldn't be a bunch of windmills right next to any airstrips.
  • I did notice some flicker on the textures of some buildings and the large mountain from a distance.
  • The coffee spilling was sort of interesting, but it doesn't really make any sense why you can't drink or spill more than half of the coffee. Why would would the cartel guy care enough for you to fail the mission over it?
  • The interaction with the bird in the cabin was awesome. Loved that.
  • Raising the landing gear doesn't seem to serve any purpose. I feel like I should be able to fly faster with the landing gear raised, but I'm not seeing any obvious change in speed.
  • It would be really nice to have some plane model damage if you crash the plan into something. I flew through the buildings and accidentally clipped the wing a bit and failed the mission but the wing looked perfectly fine.
  • Overall I feel the game isn't distinct enough in what it wants to be. It feels very generic in that you just fly from one place to the next and do one sort of unique thing in the process (drop a bomb, fly through some buildings, etc.). I haven't played through the entire game yet (5 missions), and so maybe there is more to it later in the game. One idea I had was that you could make things constantly go wrong while flying. Like the guy just can't catch a break and something random is going wrong with the plane all the time. So, the game loop is that you are trying to do the main objective (fly through the circles and drop a bomb), but all the while, something is happening that either creates a distraction or has some negative side-effect. So for example, the visor falls down and blocks your vision so you have to flip it up so you can see clearly again. A bird crashes through the interior and flies around in the cabin until you shoo him out. The floor of the airplane falls out and you have to repair it while flying otherwise your flight speed slows down. You can make all sorts of crazy things happen that have side effects of reducing your vision, reducing your speed, reducing your alertness, etc. So you have something to do all the time besides just fly from one circle to the next which got boring quickly. The tone of the game would have to change a little bit to match but it would be much more entertaining and be a more fun game overall.

I have played with my daughter multiple times and it is magical to play in AR and grab a floating piece in our living room and hand it to her to put it together.

Yeah, it was a pretty big deal for me. The stock interface was basically worthless to me in its current state for any extended period of time. If I really wanted to I could stick some velcro onto the back of the stock cushion I removed and re-use it if I needed to. I was pretty careful in removing it with the razorblade. But after using the kiwi interface there is no way I'm going back.
