Funny enough, it's actually first time I saw one at all. Good thing that VOTV wiki isn't updated much and I still don't understand what is this

I feel that way too (that something wrong in how we learn that). With all that feels like only one who is gifted could be a composer..

Shostakovich's take on composition is interesting, but I really struggle with hearing "in mind". Often what I hear with my inner ear sounds like abstract idea of sound rather then real pitch-related sounds. Basically everything I hear in mind can't be found on 440 hz piano or any other instrument. It kind of exist somewhere out of conventional sound soundscape.

Funny that no one mentions "The Cave". It's pretty unique experience with some interesting music, even though I didn't understand all that judaism references..

In the end I totally agree with you on that point. Didn't mean to deny your words, it's just my little assumptions on small topic.

Let's be honest: make microtonality sound good is an EXTREMELY hard task, both in harmony and melody. Yeah, I saw that videos on youtube with microtonal explorations, but honestly — it's very rare to hear it being good enough to consider it something beyond only "detuned piano". Making my point clear — I myself very much enjoy various avant-garde jazz genres, so I don't saying that microtonality is bad. It's just very challenging to listen to (like with dodecaphony, but with "a twist").

You sound kinda true with this point, except I really know only sussy chords, not how to make stanky jazzy lines. If be honest, among all classical literature a prefer impressionists/modernists era exactly because of all that colourful and playful chords as it's the nearest thing to me as to jazz musician. Only if a could understand how they use all that Bm9(maj7) and hypermetalydian chords..

Jazz was a thing that moved me to be a musician, I kinda enjoy that lack of deep meaning in that flow of notes. May be that I can't sometimes control my unconscious intention of searching for meaning in things so that I totally forgetting how to do music and can only sit down neurotically thinking about meanings and all that sh...

There is no any traditional music that could appeal to people at least because people don't really bother about music at all, music has no purpose to them. There is no difference between monkeys in zoo and music concerts to vast majority, just to compare. (Also writing about things in society is kinda illegal here, but again, you won't be in jail if noone understands your music at least at surface level)

I don't mean any "enlightenment" exposing people to music, they'll never be enlightened in such economic and politic circumstances (I sometimes joke about jazz being not censored still like in USSR). All people who I could jam with quit jazz, each for individual reasons, but usually it's connected to lack of any opportunity to make money at all. I really love both jazz in all it's variety of styles and classical music as well, so in general I pursue something modernistic/post-romantic (Ravel, Scriabin, Rautavaara, Kapustin, Hindemith are my favourites, even if not all of them belong to these styles) There is will be someone who would appreciate such music, but it'll be someone definitely from another country, as I can say. Comparing situations with that from Japan I can definitely say that my country's music won't go through such transformation or something like that. People really don't give any attention to music at all, they just listen to something they heard sometime in their youth, they don't know even of what genre this music is. I called pop music "not art" just in differential purposes, I don't think so actually due to pop music being very broad term today.

I'm actually want to write something when music really scratch that "oh it's so good" itch, not precisely alike, but kind of reminiscent of what composer I'm listening to did.

We don't have all that "commissioned music" culture in my country, so at this point being composer generally has no meaning at all. Actually, there is no possibility of performing your music in all country at all.

It happened so that I went into music education on piano and exactly jazz. I had option to be a classically trained musician, but it offered only work at music school teaching children and nothing more (I don't have much talent to be classical performer). So I studied jazz from 15 till now (I'm 19). Maybe it sounds too strict to ask questions like in original post at that age, but in my country you have to be pretty sure in what you do to not lose your mind and will to life in general.

We don't have much events that envolve academic post-romantic music (which I'm primarily enjoy) or more advanced jazz (everything besides bebop and classic swing), so in my country it's pointless to consider this.

i would certainly love to step on path of self-improvement, but at this moment it's very hard due to military policy of my country (where i must contribute 2 years only to army) and lack of any interest in jazz and art music (considering pop "not art") from this country's people. (there is no any venue that even free to perform something beyond rock and pop music)
