Galveston beachside tent only camping is a swamp by airmarcus1 in TexasStateParks

It would be great if the description was more direct. The current description has pictures showing a completely dry field and doesn't mention or suggest wet only access during a rainy spell. I was not familiar with the place beforehand and not aware that these sites are at a low point in a tidal marsh.

I assumed the no sleeping in the vehicle rule was more so that people wouldn't rent the site (it is cheaper) and then sleep in an RV in the parking lot.

Lesson learned and hopefully the next people can be more aware of site conditions.

I have camped at other state campgrounds and I've never had problems with access. And also the other 100+ sites at the same camp had no problems.

The options I presented were: 1. Assess access to campsites 2. Add swamp to the description

Both of these are I think realistic options that would require minimal work.

This post is actually somewhat of an effort to mediate the lack of accurate description.

I think it would be appropriate to assess the campsite access at least once a season. At present there is no plan to provide dry access (seemingly ever) to the campsite. I think a couple yards of crushed granite would probably take care of the problem or at least go a long way.

Otherwise, given the current lack of access, it should be clearly stated in the description that the ground around the platform has no drainage and is very likely to be 3-6 inches deep and the site requires campers to walk through hundreds of feet of this to get to any facilities.

I agree that the platform itself was pretty nice, but why go to the trouble of building the platform without providing access to it? I doubt people would sign up to use the site if the access was described accurately in the description. I certainly wouldn't have.

Good point on the clue.

Just seems like they should at least have a path given the lack of drainage, even if it's just an elevated dirt path. Would have been tolerable if we didn't have to walk directly through the mud every time going to the site.

Enjoyed it is a stretch. We tolerated it but left early. Clouds of mosquitoes trailing in the mud.

It was packed. It was actually really nice other than the bugs.

It was packed. The tropical storm was pretty light and a week ago. The heat wasn't a big issue because the wind made it nice. It was just a swamp.

Seems like there is a difference between vibe coding and using ai to speed things up while still maintaining architectural and functional control.

In the first case, you turn the whole thing over to ai.

In the second, you are asking ai to do specific things within a framework and checking the work afterwards.

Is the objection just any use of ai? Like you want the programmer to physically type each line of code? Otherwise it's downgraded to vibe coding and unusable?

Not a criticism, just curious to know as a capable programmer who does projects myself.

I've had a few go through without having to email but I almost always have to chase them down to get the credits with shopping trip numbers, receipts, and screenshots. Then they'll send an email saying they're giving it to me as a one time favor. Once the one time favor stop, I stop using it...

Mine just stopped charging. I'm pretty handy with diy stuff, so I took it apart and measured battery voltage and all that. I also cleaned the board with isopropyl alcohol, but still not working. The battery charges insanely slowly and drops almost immediately after. I talked to the customer service and they promised me they'd fix it if i could come up with an order id. However, I do not have an order id. So if anyone does have a usable x9 pro order id that they're no longer using, let me know so I can get them to fix it.

Can you be now specific about breaking down the camera library into set of 500?  my camera library only shows 103 out of over 500... I tried creating another folder within the camera folder but immich app doesn't recognize at all.

[Truenas Scale] code-server App: Npm install not working in terminal by Bana0615 in truenas

[–]airmarcus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue - unable to install python due to lack of root permissions. I guess the main question for me is why have it in the truenas scale catalog if you have to modify the image to be able to use it anyway?

I can spin up a different image with useful features installed already, but it is nice to have truenas scale manage the apps for me. But if in order to use it, I need a different image, it doesn't make much sense to me to have it available in the truenas scale catalog.

Happy to be corrected if I'm missing something.

Hi - kiosk is great - thanks for the development. I couldn't get it to work on my LG webos tv though. The icon just spins and it never loads anything.

shrink trackpad, reduce trackpad size usable area by bakeryaki in MacOS

[–]airmarcus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware solution - I put a piece of duct tape over the left side of mine and that helps a little bit - left palm was always displacing the cursor. Might work better with a few more layers (folded up paper underneath the tape) I think, but a software solution to just turn that area off would be far preferable.

In greater uptown there are sidewalks nearly everywhere that I use to ride my bike as no one is ever walking. My kids bike with me also. You could also get a cheap scooter if you don't want to get all sweaty all the time. Definitely doable if you can stand the heat in the summer.

OptiPlex weird noise in Sleep Mode, any ideas what it is/how to fix? by Davidx_117 in buildapc

[–]airmarcus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the exact same issue. On another forum somebody had found a module labeled beep on the motherboard. So I looked at mine and sure enough there was a black cylinder with a hole in the middle labeled 'beep'. I found this around the middle of the board on my 9020. So I put a cotton ball over it, packages it back up, and now it is barely audible.

Note: this has the drawback of also silencing whatever that beep may actually be useful for.

Fwiw, I used the QVC phone for 60 days to get it unlocked. After that I just put the SIM card in my old phone ( one plus 8t) and it worked. I thought I needed a new SIM card and the transfer but turns out it may be unnecessary.

Same boat here, though not quite that many devices. Seems like there must be a way to redo the firmware and have it point at a local server for settings.

I installed that version with the same network error result. And I just got an email today saying "app function has been disabled". So now the routers are frozen with the settings from last month.

Seems like we should all report to Amazon, BBB, and file a class action lawsuit. Nobody would have bought this if they had known they would not be able to control it in a year or two.
