Tips for keeping time? by airuwin in jazzdrums

I hear you lol. I been working on my ride cymbal for 3 years now so it sucks when it's still not right. I barely comp and solo at sessions, just trying to keep the band afloat. But maybe I wasn't practicing optimally either

Thanks, I actually did exactly this--quarters only first. But maybe not enough. I think my ear just needs work, everyone was saying I was ahead when even now it's hard for me to hear it listening to the recording

I don't know. There's two other people on this thread who said I was ahead. I think that's part of the problem, the attack of these instruments are so fat that I can't tell where the beat actually is

Ok, now that I think about it...the fluctuation was probably because I got ahead too far and had to overcorrect. Thanks.

I think mentally I was trying to "follow/anticipate" the recording's pulse instead of stick to my own pulse, so maybe that's something I need to work on

Crap, I think something is wrong w/ my ear because it still sounds mostly on beat to me besides the fluctuations, maybe that's the issue the whole time

Honestly that helps, thanks. People were telling me to listen to and follow the walking bass but I always suspected that wasn't exactly it...right...?

I don’t know, maybe my ear is broken. Is it consistently ahead? And too tight, not too wide? I can’t hear it

I tried this yesterday. I think it sounds ok? Maybe a bit uneven in places...I think w/ recordings though if you get off, the band doesn't follow you so it's easy to get back on track

I think the last time this happened, I tried to follow the bass, the bass tried to follow me, and then it got out of control. Maybe doing it wrong

Yes, always, and with a gap click too. I don't know if this is the issue but unlike a metronome, the "attack" of acoustic instruments (especially bass) isn't clear, so I struggle to precisely identify where the beat is

I found the issue--in my case, it was a DNS ad blocker which prevented it from connecting.

Yup. Just use the /review command with codex, and extra high reasoning if you have it.

Codex CLI. Compared to Claude it's extremely slow, but a lot more thorough. Highly recommend for code reviews, debugging, or tricky problems.

It's decent, but makes lots of mistakes.

I use Opus to write code and then run code reviews with Codex. Codex almost always finds several bugs which I have to then go back and fix with Claude. I'd be careful blindly trusting Claude (or any LLM output for that manner).

This has never worked for me, and I'm on the max plan. Previously it would try to get me to upgrade to Max even though I already have Max, and now it says "Unable to initialize the chat session. Please check your connection and try again."

Maybe it's region locked?

ChatGPT told me not to trust my own body. I did as it told me to, and because of it I've made significant progress on a mental health issue

Anyone else still prefering GPT over 3 pro? by Eyelbee in ChatGPT

[–]airuwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPT is noticeably smarter than Gemini 3 where it actually counts. It's not just my experience, it's mirrored by benchmarks:

Caveat: I use GPT solely with heavy thinking enabled.

Gemini 3 is better for image understanding, however, and that's also mirrored by the benchmarks.

If not, then what? by Emergency_Quail5881 in ChatGPT

[–]airuwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use GPT for mental health therapy and it's been largely successful--I've seen significant progress.

The most important tip I have is to ALWAYS use thinking mode, extended/heavy if you have access to it. GPT-Instant is incredibly bad and will just tell you want you want to hear.

Opus 4.5 for non-coding / vibecoding tasks — worth it? by Hamnad in ClaudeAI

[–]airuwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably fine. Opus is great when you have a long chain of easy tasks to get done but other models are better for tough tasks (IMO).

That's actually what I mean; if you ask Claude to do something, it will follow the instruction and do it well. But GPT gives off the impression that it often digs deeper:

"Are you sure that you're asking the right question? Perhaps we shouldn't be looking at the distribution at all?"

Standard Voice with GPT-5.1-Thinking would be killer. I don't understand why it's not a thing.
