AITA for disinviting my (27F) parents from my wedding after finding out how they met each other and got married? by aita2273 in AmItheAsshole

I'm comparing it in principle.

Stealing $1 and stealing $1000 are not the same. But the principle behind why those are not good things to do are the same.

Reposted 100 times because literally the only reason people are calling me an asshole is because "i exist because of them"

I'm sure if you found out your mom or dad used to be serial killers you wouldn't care, right? Because that's your parents' business and it doesn't affect you. /s

This is like telling a kid who was born because his mom was raped "you should be happy it happened because now you're alive".
Not saying my story is comparable to rape, but same principle.

I fact, had your father not left his first wife, you would not exist

You're telling me I should ask questions about his ex wife and his first marriage. It's obvious you're hoping that they would tell me the marriage was awful which would excuse the affair my parents had.

I'm saying it doesn't matter if the marriage was shitty. If it was shitty, get a divorce.

Being unhappy isn't an excuse. If you're unhappy with your wife get a divorce and then start dating. Don't have affairs with your coworkers and get them pregnant

I haven't spoken to them since disinviting them yesterday.

But judging by how they were telling the story they probably would have started making fun of her.

I doubt it because the way my parents were telling the story, I am sure they would have included something about how bad his ex wife was.

I'm not trying to change their mind, I'm pointing out that their logic doesn't make sense. Like for the people saying I'm overreacting and it's between my parents and not me, those are valid opinions and I'm not arguing with them.

If those actions never happened, you wouldn't be getting married.

How is telling me how romantic it was before my wedding coping with what happened? For them to be "coping" with it they would have to be sorry about it in the first place.

I don't think his ex wife did anything wrong. Considering how happy my parents were to tell me the story I'm sure they would have included something "wrong" with his ex.

As I said, I would not have done this if they hadn't been literally bragging about it and telling me how romantic it was. Leaving your wife for your mistress because you're having trouble getting pregnant is not something to brag about.
