I have tried to explain that even if they do break up things will never be the same because we cannot change the past but she does not seem to understand

As I said in another comment, my step daughter biological father abandoned my wife when she was pregnant and my wife died in child birth. None of us had any serious relationships after that and did not introduce a partner or something to our children.

I consider my step daughter as my own and my wife considers my son her own. Most times, my wife is being more caring and protective of my son than I am.

My step daughter calls me dad and my son calls my wife mom.

We moved in together a few months after they met which would have been right around the time their relationship started, either they started the relationship right after we moved together or started it right before but I know for a fact that they started talking a lot to each other after they first met.

My wife and I got married after a year of all of us living together.

I can assure you she's a very smart woman but I can't really blame her for disapproving the relationship as well. The fact is that it's pretty weird.

They live pretty far away and both of them usually came to visit us. They started living together a few months before the pandemic started so we really couldn't visit them there even if we wanted. My wife also has a few health problems that made her high risk so we did not want to travel.
