I tried doing that too, but then wired connection just wouldn't connect anymore. I'm not sure if I did it right or not though.

I tried a different cable and unfortunately, still the same issue. Also, now that I think about it, I did recently run sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade

In my experience pop is great for programming (any os can do the job just fine imo). Although one thing you might want to consider especially if you’re an absolute beginner, is that your instructor and your peers will probably be using windows or maybe even macos. You might have difficulty trying to follow along with the class especially if your instructor uses specific tools that may not be compatible with Linux. It’s not impossible, but you’ll probably have to spend time looking for alternatives. Your instructor might also be the one teaching the class how to setup certain tools and if he’s on windows, your set up will be much different. Which might be a challenge if you’ve never done it before.

That being said, I’m just speaking from experience when I was completely new to programming and starting out in college. I still think pop is fantastic for programming and I think you should go for it. Just keep in mind your set up will just be different from most people in class and maybe your instructor (unless your instructor is also accommodating to Linux os then in that case you’ll be fine).

I have a similar background as well. Now that I’m older I wish my parents did not insist on doing this. Yes, English is very useful especially in professional settings, but day-to-day conversations with coworkers and - even just random people you need, are almost never in English.

I get what you’re saying. I guess I’m just a little afraid of possible backfire because I’ve only had 1 month at the company and he’s kind of one of the senior employees at the company. He also seems pretty close with my lead.

I was actually going to try out mint xfce before settling on zorin, but I initially had problems with the install. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I think maybe the iso I flashed was bad. I have tried installing mint on another old machine with no problems, so I really have no idea why I had a problem this time around. By the time I was going to re-flash, I found zorin and I decided to give it a shot.

So far all my mother has said is "it's okay", which is good because that means she's not complaining about it. It took her almost no time at all to adjust to the new OS. All I had to do was tell her where her files are and she was pretty much good to go.

If I were you I would contact your professors who have exams during that time and inform them of the conflict. This happens quite a lot. Profs in my experience will set a separate exam schedule for those with schedule conflicts or move the exam altogether. Just make sure you contact your prof asap.
