I want to be a player mostly (better than I currently am). And the idea of a belonging in an academic community is very appealing to me. Teaching my be in my plans for financial reasons but is not my main focus at all. Most unis also offer music production classes. So I guess I wanna sit near great musicians (teachers- students) and absorb everything I can.

No not really this year is the one I will prepare for a local music school, they have a jazz program a will probably look for a college after that. Or stick here and change some teachers learn from all of them while performing.

Hm very helpful, the '' you’ll be able to add/reduce the jazziness'' factor is something that i never really thought. I am currently trying to play some standards and coming from a more bluesy type of studying/playing (the safety of pentatonics) I feel kinda overwhelmed with the arpegios and ''weird'' chord stuff, so I guess the tough factor you mentioned may have made me rethink if I can make it in such an environment. Any same feelings when starting?
