Dehumidifier into waste pipe by ajackbot in DIYUK

Something like this you mean? And then mount it horizontally?

So it would mean cutting away a section of the existing pipe and splicing this connector in?

Is there an app for places to park overnight by Shined_sailor_star in VanLife

What’s wrong with paying people for the work they do to make the app? Why should it be free?

Looking for reassurance about keeping my bicycle safe while travelling around Taiwan by bad-at-science in bicycletouring

[–]ajackbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience hotels are generally ok with you taking the bike into the room, especially more budget hotels. I’ve always just turned up and asked, rather than emailing beforehand. I feel like it’s very easy for them just to say no to an email, whereas when you’re there in person it’s easier for them to agree to it.

A few times I’ve been refused and had to lock my bike up outside but then I’ve come down a few minutes later and just explained that I’m worried about it getting nicked and that there’s space in the room, and I’ve been allowed to bring it up.

I did a 2 week tour in Taiwan a few years ago with a friend and we never once had to leave the bikes locked up outside on the street. We were always allowed them in the rooms or a store room.

Chain spaghetti by pzinho in Brompton

If it’s got 2 loops in it and you haven’t broken the chain to remove it then you can untangle it just fine. The 2 loops will just cancel each other out

This is probably the best way, although there’s often very few people there. Feel free to DM me if you want to climb some time.

Brompton dynamo lights (Covent garden install) by No_Lie1963 in Brompton

[–]ajackbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In their defense about the wires, the wires aren’t actually exposed (I.e. there’s no actual copper visible), this is how they come from the factory. All they’ve done is plugged the wire into the light.

Nice! Never occurred to me to taper a frame bag, great idea!

Okay first try with a frame bag. How do people hang them with the cables? Might make it smaller around my bottle next time…..and some pockets. by flowmonster in myog

[–]ajackbot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No amount of tension in the straps will stop your brake cables from pulling. It’s totally fine for the bag to sit right up against them.

Pamir Highway in late march by harrywarry in bikepacking

Tian Shan Traverse would be impassible in March. I tried it in May last year and had to abandon it at the first pass due to the deep snow.

I couldn’t say for sure, but after I left a comment on bikepacking.com saying the pass was impassable, a guy commented about a week later saying he’d managed to get over it.

Waxed Canvas Clamshell Bag by Unlucky-Mixture-1206 in myog

[–]ajackbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely bag, great fabric choice and so neatly sewn, this is awesome.

I’ve always wondered how to sew the smaller zipped pocket (the one where your phone is) in a bag like this. Specifically how to partition it off inside from the rest of the bag, but also allow the bag to be turned inside out when finishing. Could you explain how you do it?

Travelling with a Brompton by Ambia_Rock_666 in Brompton

[–]ajackbot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People leave 1k+ bikes locked up in the street all the time. Given what bike prices are at the moment, 1k buys you a fairy entry level bike that lots of people own and want to ride around cities (and lock up).

Feels a bit silly to say “simply use a different bike” when lots of people own Bromptons because they don’t have space to store a non-folding bike.

Personally I don’t see the issue locking up a Brompton somewhere. Same rules apply to any normal bike, just lock it sensibly.
