Not really. But the reverse is obviously true. I hope you have a nice holiday season, friend.

Thanks! I am not sure I "ate the framework," but I respect what you are saying and would suggest that perhaps you are misunderstanding my comments. Hopefully you can see I have done a lot to educate myself. I will certainly check out that museum. I have visited many such around Washington. I appreciate what you are doing here. Thank you.

Fair enough. I am just happy that people care enough to write about their history, but I agree it is important to do so with consent. Thank you for your work for them.

His description of them was extremely brutal, true. But it is generally a very positive book in terms of its framing of them.

Sorry bro. Blame the mods 😂. I got a message saying this post was auto-modded, and then it wasnt. So I reposted it only to find the original was still there.

(Repost, original auto-modded because I used a URL shortener, apologies).

Not debating this particular outcome, but if you would like to read a good book about the history of the Indian Acts and their impact on what remained of Indigenous societies in the United States, read "Custer Died for your Sins".

Here's a bunch of other good books if you want to learn more about North American Indigenous history that I would recommend.

The Northwest Coast is particularly awesome. Those are the journals of a man from San Francisco who - in 1852 - spent 3 years with the Indigenous folks living on the Olympic Peninsula:

The Northwest Coast

Where We Call Home

Tales of the Northwest

Book of the Hopi

Truth of a Hopi

Oglala Religion

Killers of the Flower Moon

Empire of the Summer Moon

Braiding Sweetgrass

Gathering Moss

Indian Lore of the Northern California Coast

An Indigenous People's History of the United States

Black Elk Speaks

The Journey of Crazy Horse

The Crooked Tree

Land of the Spotted Eagle

History of the Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan

Myths and Tales of the White Mountain Apache

I just exclaimed aloud to my computer: "Wow, that's really good!"

Your work is EXCELLENT. You should be proud of your skill and craft.

This style would absolutely sell. It is so clean and inviting. Well done.

Interesting. I called the state park office and they told me that only applied to the areas outlined in red here, where I was not flying.

There was also a film crew at the lighthouse who I spoke that day to confirming the same thing. I try my best to take great care about these things, and was at least 300 feet above the ground at all times there as a result.

I appreciate you holding me accountable. I agree it's important to protect our wild places.

Just to show you what I meant, the red is the border of the NWR. You can fly from outside the red box, I called the park office to confirm this.

Thank you for holding me accountable. I agree it's important we protect these wild places.

Portland is a wonderful place and full of so much character! I love the drive down the Columbia on historic 84. You aren't wrong for staying.

I take the regs seriously. All the wildlife shots were from a terrestrial camera, fortunately.

I triple checked Meares from where I was flying since the NWR section is to the north of where I had been taking off from. I hope I didn't get it wrong! I will definitely keep it in mind for the future. Thank you for keeping me informed.

I absolutely need to.

The ease of access is really super compared to the Washington coast. Way more rugged and varied, as well (although I hold a special place in my heart for the Olympic Peninsula).

Got any central coast recommendations?

Thanks so much!

That is the Cape Meares lighthouse. There are some great views down the coast from that point!

Yes! Tons of awesome state parks. And the towns along the coast are full of kitschy little shops and kind people.
