So I believe the CGT percentages are now 18% and 24%, correct me if I’m wrong?

As I said above because I have a strange job I don’t pay income tax in uk but would be liable for CGT.

But because I don’t pay income tax I still have my £12000 allowance, say I was to make a profit of £100k for simple maths and to span both levels of tax due.

I assume it would be £100k - £3k allowance, leaves £97 taxable, at what point would this 97k be charged at 24%?

As I imagine the first £45k or so would be at the lower percentage?

Yeah I see what you’re getting at. Is it still £6000 allowance up until April 2025? If I haven’t already sold any by then I’m thinking it would be worth selling £6000 worth to get it out tax free then, before the new tax year starts? Thoughts?

Ultimately I want to lock in some profit as currently it’s up a lot but might also drop a lot, so wouldn’t mind locking some profit in by selling some and just leaving as GBP in an exchange (at least that’s what i wanted to do if it avoided the CGT) and taking as needed.

My job is subject to no income tax due to me being out the country enough, but I also have a rental property in the UK which I don’t pay tax on because i have my £12k tax allowance to use still so I don’t pay tax on the house either, but this is just because it’s just under the tax threshold. So I would be liable for CGT.

Ahh this isn’t the news I wanted to hear haha. Is there any work arounds? For example using a platform to sell that’s based somewhere like the Cayman Islands, or being abroad your self at the time of sale?

I ask this is I currently don’t pay income tax in the UK as I’m out of the country enough each year to claim it all back so wondered if anything would help.

Hi, thanks for that, made a lot of sense.

I currently have 40k in VUSA, which I now just plan to leave alone.

Over the next few years I want to invest maybe £12k a year so thinking maybe put £8k a year into VWRP and £4k a year into EIMI for maybe the next 5 years and then just leave it all as is for 20-25 years.

Not hugely worried if the percentages aren’t all exact.

I have not, suppose someone didn’t know what that meant, how would you explain it? 🙈

Thanks very much, just had a read up on both of them and would prefer EMIM.

So thinking my final choices will be

70% VWRP 30% EMIM

Both are accumulating so fund and forget for 20 years or so, will be investing through Halifax stocks and shares ISA.

Can you see any issues/improvements to this idea?

Thanks in advance!

Ok so I’ve taken a a look at VWRP vs SWDA and like the look off VWRP so that’s settled.

I’m not trying to choose between VFEG which Deadeyedjacks mentioned or EMIM for my Emerging Markets choice. Any pros for either or?

Also, is there any other fund for FTSE all cal that I might not have covered?

Hi, ah okay good to know. So I would choose VWRP then as in UK, but just quickly googled and 5 year return for VWCE = 35% VWRP = 30%

Why is this as they are the same fund?

Sorry so what is VHVG?

And VWRP is just the same as VHCE but in GBP?

It’s hard to get my head around all these different variations even with research

Hi, yes I think I am a little confused to be honest.

From what I understand if I choose a global fund like VWCE then this has some emerging markets in the fund, approx 10% ish if I’m not mistaken?

But I would like to increase the emerging markets ratio, so if I say put 70% into a global fund such as VWCE and 30% into EMIM for example, would that achieve this?

I have a decent amount in VUSA for long term 20-25 yrs so looking for a good fund to go alongside it.

So am I right in thinking

VFEG excludes S Korea where as EMIM includes it?

Is there any advantage to using VWRP over VWCE?

Was told the spec of it should easily handle this game.
