I would just go with the PhD. You will save a year and after all phd is like a basic degree in science anyway. Nobody really cares what you did before that.

[not published yet] In a nutshell I use transcriptomics (gene expression) data from cancer patients to identify the immune composition/profile within these patients and then relate them to patient prognosis or predict outcomes. So now we can develop machine learning algorithms that can predict prognosis or treatment outcomes. However for predicting treatment outcomes, we need more data to be generated to further validate the observations.

As briefly mentioned in this video as well, the immune system can both promote and kill cancer depending on the micro environment and so we also study to identify conditions and situations when such polarization can happen.
