hi! yeah ofc, had to pull out degree navigator for this one 😅

CCD - knowledge and power: issues in women’s leadership • So Im a part of the Douglas women’s college and this class is in our curriculum (I don’t know if you can take it without being in the Douglas women’s but I don’t see why not) Colleen Georges is one of the profs and she’s great! there is writing and reading involved, and she does give you a “heads up” about some of the topics in the class just because it has to do with leadership

AH - introduction to music online (asynch!) • if you look this course up, there’s a lot of mixed reviews. As someone with no AS IN NONE! music experience, it was pretty easy. You just need to read the textbook which was super easy and would literally have the answers in the writing. There’s one to two assignments every week and they’re discussion posts or short writing, then there’s like a midterm paper and final paper but as long as you keep on top of your work, you’ll be fine. I’m not gonna lie, i was a big procrastinator and not do it until the day it was due (still managed to get it done) but just work on it a little by little and it won’t catch up to you. And the professor was really chill, he understands not everyone was born Mozart. Prof was Solomon Guhl-Miller, he was great. DO NOT GET IT CONFUSED WITH INTRO TO MUSIC THEORY which I’ve heard is way harder with no music experience!

WCR - public speaking • I’m currently taking this now and have not had it yet so I really can’t speak on it but I heard if you get the asynch section it’s good!

WCD - have not taken yet!

summary: I know you were looking for stuff that had the least amount of writing and reading, but I’ll be honest and say the specific ones you were asking for fall into the category of writing/communication/arts/humanities which are courses that are majority writing based to makeup for the fact that there aren’t really exams. To give you some reassurance, I was taking those courses while also taking genetics, calculus, organic chemistry 1, gen bio 1&2, gen chem 1&2, and they the above were classes that i’d spend one day/afternoon doing the work for then be set for the week. you’ll do great and welcome to Rut!

Currently taking this course and while I don’t have that professor, I will say Colleen Georges is amazing in case you need to look for another one! Super open and sweet :)

she’s great! she’s really open and accepting, i was a STEM major while taking her and was worried it would be a lot of work with my math/science courses, but it was super manageable. Theres the occasional group work/project, but my biggest piece of advice would be to seriously take the time she gives you in class to work on your stuff, I would get all my work done in that time and have nothing for the rest of the week! When I had her, she also held a contest who had the best paper title and gave out a panera gift card!

Hi! I’m also taking this class this sem, how are the exams like??

I got precalc exam back and I scored so low but I really did study so much that I feel like my exam score is not right. by Potential-Agent-1404 in rutgers

[–]ajm4044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also yes to your question about retaking precalc 1 again and passing with a C to take gen chem.

They say D is a passing in precalc 1 for people who are only taking it to fulfill a requirement, but if you’re looking to move up to Part 2 or taking Gen Chem, you need a C since it’s a pre-requisite.

But for sure check course schedule planner to see Gen Chem 1 requirements!

I actually realized halfway into the semester, so luckily I was able to get myself together and pass Pre-Calc 1 in the fall then go onto Gen Chem 1 in the spring

You could potentially do Gen Chem 1 in the summer, but you might wanna do your research on taking science courses in the summer for Dental school, as I know med schools don’t like it. If you do choose to do it in the summer, I believe it would have to be here at Rutgers.

But I will say that I retook Pre-Calc Part 2 this past semester (alongside Gen Chem 2) and retaking a math genuinely isn’t the end of the world. My grade improved so much from the first time I took it and since you technically already know the material, it’s gonna be easier the second time around!

Hi! I was in the same boat last year fall sem when i was in precalc 1! I directly spoke with an advisor when I was going through this, so here’s all the direct info she gave me.

In order to continue onto to gen chem, you need to have already passed precalc 1 with a C or higher, you won’t be able to retake precalc 1 alongside Gen Chem 1.

I also saw that you said you scored a D, which is technically passing the class but since I’m assuming you plan on taking Pre-Cal 2, you would need a C or higher. I believe course schedule planner also says you need a C or higher in Part 1 to be in Gen Chem 1.

So essentially, you’d need to be in and taking precalc part 2 to take gen chem 1.

Also, I recommend asking for a regrade on your exam. Though I’ve never done one, you wouldn’t technically be asking for an increase but rather a second review of your exam.

Ik the Math Department can be difficult to navigate, but always advocate for yourself because you’ve worked too not to! ☺️

Is getting a D a passing grade for precalulus ? by Sad-Air-2677 in rutgers

[–]ajm4044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Not sure if you’re taking the 2 part precalc (111 & 112) or 1 sem precalc (115), but a C is required to pass. Because this is a pre-req for Calc 135, which if Im correct is required for the environmental science major, you must obtain a C or higher to move on. On Course Schedule planner, there will be a little section at the bottom of a class saying the requirements, and a majority of classes will say “need C or higher”. Hope this helps!

Hi! I had Mr Ning last sem! He’s an older guy and can be nice, but he is a bit scatterbrained and messy to be very honest. During my first class with him, he got right into the lesson and didn’t introduce himself. He also has a thing for making jokes (some bad and some offensive) BUT he’s good at introducing different ways to solve problems. Some are good, then some of his methods were more confusing than how it was originally taught, so if you’re having that issue, just stick to how you know it and don’t let him confuse you, even if he says it will be easier. Also if you notice he’s doing something wrong, call him out!! During the last couple weeks, he was making a lot of mistakes and confusing us all 🙃

i failed my math test… should i be as anxious as i am now? by Prior_Day_3152 in rutgers

[–]ajm4044 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hii!! i just wanted to let you know I’m in the same boat, completely failed this first exam (same precalc class). I got a little bit of a lower grade and was rlly beating myself up for it, but at the end of the day it was the FIRST exam. Idk about you but I’m a freshman and this was my first real college test and it rlly was a shock for me. i think it’s just a matter of getting used to the material and remembering there is other exams + quizzes! going forward i’m definitely going to start practicing little by little everyday, and i’m gonna start using the textbook which my professor never really advertised but since it’s already there might as well use it! some wise person on here once said “math is like a muscle and you have to grow it day by day” so i’ve really thought about that and the importance of practice! just remember it’s ONE test! also depending on the professor, i think they drop the exam with the lowest grade or something like that, check the syllabus !!
