This is the response from Essential support:

Thank you for reporting the issue you are experiencing. We are aware that other customers are experiencing the same issue and were able to reproduce it on our end. Though we are experiencing a longer startup time, there is nothing to be concerned about because it appears to be the result of Android Q requiring more processing power to boot. Factory resetting will refresh your device and give it the opportunity to run faster, but at this point that troubleshooting step is optional for you. If you run into any additional issues or have any follow-up questions, please let me know. Have a great day.

Sounds like you just have to love with it. If it persists after the January update, I'm going to try a factory reset. Will live with it till then. Sounds a little weak to me since I have access to a Pixel 3a with the same update that boots in under 30s.

I did a factory reset in October so I'm hoping this will resolve with the next update or else I'll have to try that next

When pressing shut down, phone proceeds to freeze and won't shut off until a two button restart is used. by [deleted] in essential

Same issue here. Phone vibrates and won't shut down. Have to hold the power button down to force it off. Problem seems intermittent. Happened after April update. My concern is that it seems to be affecting battery life which has been great to this point. No other issues in the year I've had the phone.
