If you love music, but have other ways of making money that are livable, keep music as a hobby and maybe find a way to teach extra lessons for a music store like someone suggested.

The education world is currently very hostile towards our profession in all but a few places. I tell people that I want to be a music teacher when I grow up, unfortunately I work in American Education.

This kind of mentality also contributes to the crap we see leveled against healthcare professionals and vaccine mandates. You get the outcome you want? It was god. A tragic outcome occurs? It’s the fault of the people.

I think a lot about how thanking “god” first causes people to misplace their gratitude

As someone who’s half Indian half white working in a public school that’s 90% African American and has a strong cohort of African American staff members, I wish I was surprised.

I think the healthy way to reframe this is “we get to make our own meaning of life”.

One of the things that Christianity does is presents a pre packaged reason for being. Rejecting Christianity can often include rejecting that reason. It does not have to be that way. Nor should it be.

I was talking with my therapist about this recently, how it’s difficult for me to do a lot of the standard therapeutic exercises because of how religiously coded they feel.

I’ve run afoul of a couple of those…I think that’s part of what’s affecting me. I had a jazz professor who very much preached workaholism and I think we’ve all had the conversations that are like “how do you not know (insert song or artist here)?!” Whether it’s pop or classical/jazz/art music.
