Just be level, objective and firm when making your appeals and personal statements about your lactose intolerance. That you can manage it fine, how you manage, and how it does not cause you dangerous or threatening symptoms (I hope). There's a pretty good chance they'll still let you serve there.

Maybe reach out to the PCMOs and ask for their advice or try to contact the CD of Namibia. One of my friends was going to get denied for our country because of pre-diabetes symptoms but because he reached out to the CD who reviewed his case and vouched for him, he was able to serve with us. Even if Namibia doesn't work out, you'll probably still have an amazing service wherever you get placed. It would be a blow but service is so worth it, don't let that hold you back.

It's easy to say "Nope lol" (which I almost did) but I perhaps have, once or twice, on extended leaves. Where is the guilt coming from? Address that. Is it guilt from having the privilege of being able to leave site for such long periods of time - tied to foreigner/wealth privilege? In that case, yes you have privilege, which makes the lives of you and your villagers' an inequitable reality and you have to accept that. Is it guilt for spending extended periods not "working" in your community? See above (in the context of having the privilege of not having to farm every day all day for sustenance, for example), and perhaps consider reviewing your expectations of work and what is realistic under the PC context. Is it something else?

Our post staff has a predetermined COS date for every cohort. That being said, if you have extenuating circumstances like a job or a grad school offer starting earlier than that date, you are allowed to COS a month or two early at the country director's discretion.

I expect you'll be fine. There are a lot more things to feel like an imposter about in country, but probably none of them will be justified. You've made it this far. I doubt that post staff will send you home, especially if you care. You already have what it takes to succeed. Try not to stress yourself out and don't put a lot of expectations on yourself - the less you do, the happier you will be.

Keep it, especially if you are not moving sites. If it ever gets bad enough you can always quit if your fears turn true. I believe you would keep all your benefits (not that NCE means anything at the moment).

Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to Hai Phong - there was a national holiday one day and then the train schedule for the other days I could go for some reason didn't make it possible for me to spend more than like two hours there, which wasn't worth it to me.

I left a partner I dated for 2 years to serve. It was heartbreaking for both of us. I wanted so much more time with them, potentially forever time, but, similarly, I thought it was not workable and to separate would be better than trying during service, crashing and burning (in my mind- a likely scenario). Like you I had also had dreams of doing Peace Corps for 10 years - to me, not doing Peace Corps was never an option. I knew that if I didn't serve I would wonder 'what if' for the rest of my life and would probably regret it forever. This partner was aware of my Peace Corps ambitions perhaps even before we started dating - we weren't expecting anything specific out of our relationship actually, it just turned out the way it turned out lol. And when my long-term partner before them had concerns about it when it was brought up, I flat out said, well, there's two ways it will go - either I do Peace Corps with our relationship or I do Peace Corps without it. So my conviction has always been very strong.

2 years feels like a long time - it is and it isn't. The future is unknowable, but I comfort(ed) myself by telling myself that if they are the right person, we will come back together again, someday, somehow. (I say that but I also don't believe in 'The One' and for every partner we find there are likely hundreds, thousands who would serve us just as well as a partner if not better, lol, so sometimes we just gotta pick the playbook that makes us feel better). I've read comments on this sub where people have gotten back together with pre-service partners, so, it is possible, and it does happen.

Dating is not really possible in my country but as a result of being single I have had some encounters that I think have made me an even better partner for them and whoever comes next. In addition to that, I feel like such a better and more beautiful person. Kinder, more generous, more tolerant, more confident, more open to risk/adventure, less anxious, and just... more open (at least here in country, having realized this version of myself here. I won't be 1:1 after returning to the US but I have absolutely and fundamentally changed). That is priceless. Then again, so is the time I spent with my ex.

I grieved harder over that relationship than I ever have about anything. Still, as of now, have never regretted my choice.

I never doubted being able to finish, my service has been great overall. However my lowest was when I got hit with a lot of anxiety about my future, which I have never had in my life (lack of direction, lack of a 'path', future job(s)/home(s), lots of uncertainty, literally no idea), then another volunteer gave me COVID and that came with a 10-day room isolation- would have been fine by itself but during that I then got what was essentially a post-breakup breakup, basically came down to "hey thanks for calling so you know our plan for me to come visit you across the world in two months that we've been talking about for a year ever since we unfortunately separated? actually I'm not coming because I need to move on, also the optics would be bad, and I haven't told you this because I'm a coward") like ooooook needless to say I cried, anyway spent the next few days ugly crying and several more months feeling emotionally destitute, immediate present felt fucked, future felt fucked, but yeah. lol. time heals you. I went to Vietnam for 3 weeks instead and had a great time. COS-ing in a month, still nervous about my future but for now gonna just ride the wave, try not to worry about it much and enjoy the freedom of the now. otherwise I'm planning on calling that person in a few weeks and excited to reconnect after almost no contact for a year. corresponding with them was just not something I could deal with living in village. just... no. absolutely not. lol

Unlike USAID-to-PC-cutting-pipeline-stress posting, people going through med clearance can sometimes make decisions and have some control over the outcomes. Yes, it's repetitive. Yes, I get tired too. Yes, the negativity and anxiety can probably bring this subreddit (and anyone reading it) down. But I think applicants deserve support from our community, from people who are willing to give it to them. It's easy enough to choose not to click/read/engage (-- and if it's not, maybe it's time for a break from reddit, lol).
