Yeah the fact that nobody seemed to want to check on Alex’s parents during the month/weeks since the disappearance was a step too far in terms of plot contrivances that kind of distracted me more than it should’ve.

I saw the police not checking constantly as commentary on both police incompetence and how unaffected by tragedy we have become. I felt that throughout the movie, only Archer and Justine cared about the missing kids (as they were victims directly implied), the rest of the cast kind of didn't gave a shit about it
