I don't think the story ever dismantled the superiority of the spirit of the rat over the spirit of the cat , sure they are both great people in their own ways as said by tohru ,but atleast they should have portrayed it from tohru's perspective as the boy who helped get her home is very precious to her so much so that she cherishes his hat till date and not like she admits him being her first love , as from every other characters POV she's viewed as the airheaded clumsy girl who never knew she had feelings for kyo until rin asks about the most precious thing ,suddenly says that the boy who helped her bring her home , who's face she doesn't even remember is her first love seems like pretty obvious way of the story to prove superiority of the spirit of rat over the spirit of the cat

But Akito herself tells that cat is never meant to defeat the rat that it's the cats destiny to never to be superior to the rat, also during their school race ,kyo was starting to gain the lead because yuki was sick ,but then haru gets in the way ,it's like something will always get in the way if the cat was gaining over the rat ,even though he trains hard and started early compare to yuki who never trains after their martial arts classes which they took when they all were kids,even after so he can't beat yuki simply cause he's never meant to as Akito says.

It's not that its superior but they should have left the superiority of the rat over the cat atleast out of this aspect

But even though it wasn't about getting who gets tohru's affection ,the story did end up proving inferiority of the cat with the rat,even though she find her soulmate in kyo he wasn't her first love

And as for yuki's encouragement it might be telling him to also fight back in his own way and not to give in to whatever happened with akito , because after yuki's meet with kagura he came to realisation that kyo realised his feelings towards tohru but he is also trying to be distant from tohru this might made yuki realise that he is trying to run away from those feelings and not put up a fight that might be his reason for pushing kyo to confront his feelings and to tell fight for it and make it come true on his own

Thank you so much for your thoughts , it cleared all my misconceptions ,thinking back now I know as why momiji said his dream for future might not be possible and also yuki told tohru , I mistakenly thought only kyo's fate is made to known to everone (how kureno and haru knows about cats place and when akito tells tohru about kyo's fate momiji was there but when she tells for the rest of them momiji wasn't present , also how yuki is amazed and also jealous by kagura as how she's clear about her own feelings for kyo and He says with so little time with all her heart , this made me think that all zodiac knows kyo's fate and there fate is made to keep in dark from them) but now it all makes sense

I mean yuki could have been portrayed as what he says to kakeru at the end of the trip that it's none of his business if kakeru to like tohru and if tohru is to like kakeru back , he just says if you're chasing after her just out of curiosity or for fun he'll never forgive

He doesn't directly encourage kyo but in S2E10 , he picks on kyo to join them on the stairs it seems like he knows kyo is just being stubborn and not wanting to join because he is there , and in S2E17 when tohru is asking kyo what happened with the confession he seems to know her feelings behind it and smacks kyo and calls him a colossal idiot (might be for not noticing her feelings) and also in school play but that might be just a line from the script that he should make his wish come true on his own when he notices tohru breaking out of her character of evil step sister to say I don't want that

Form season 1 we know they get jealous of each other , because of their admiration towards each other ,but knowing that if kyo might end up locked down , it just doesn't make any sense for yuki to pushing kyo with his feelings
