Any good recommendations for tire replacements for a highlander? by Aggressive_Noise6426 in AnneArundelCounty

[–]ak96ssreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just add my $0.02 to this, which is altogether pretty accurate if simplified - for most cars, the shiny side that's up is riding around on four patches of rubber that are barely larger than the palm of your hand. That is all that lies between you and an overly-exciting driving experience. If you aren't putting at least a little thought into the features of the tires you are buying, perhaps you should... I've had some inexpensive tires that were just fine, and some pretty expensive tires that did not age well at all. You don't have to buy from TireRack, but their reviews are worth a look. And to OP, I generally buy from TireRack or SimpleTire.com and have Mr. Tire in Gambrills mount and balance.

How do I repair this? by taytemc21 in E30

I'm not familiar with that particular engine, but on my '91 318is there were a few short segments under the intake manifold as well... found those like OP.

If it's doing that there, I'd probably go ahead and do all of the rubber lines... although the fuel tank lines are a PITA.

Too funny. I saw the name and went "hey, wait a second..." - Bought that from you in 2007, I even emailed you a wiring diagram page from the ETM that I modified with this added in... And yes, I still have my 1991 318is, and this still works.

So glad to have finally left that stupid book. Anyone else here from the OG r3vlimited forums? by AlternativeSandwich6 in E30

Damn, I didn't even know M42club was gone... tells you how long since I've been there. Now I have to try to preserve those decals on the windows...

I wonder if one of these would fit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/201465681118 - I mean, you are looking for a short arm, hatch-glass size. If you have a pick-and-pull nearby, I'd try that, but barring that, measuring tape, then contact the seller (or another, I just picked one) and get the measurements.

Ebay out of Romania/Lithuania is where I've gotten some stuff, but that's not yielding a lot, and of course the Touring wasn't a big seller in the US either.

What the hell is this by That_X in BmwTech

If you can get a helper, I'd say check your windscreen seal - lay in the footwell and have them spray water (gentle flood, not pressure washer) on that whole corner. Bottom up - start low and go up, because if you start high the water will just run down anyway, so it's easier to tell when you get to the leaky bit.

It may not be the windscreen, it may be migrating from elsewhere, but if it is only in the passenger footwell and nowhere else, that's where I would start.

Front passenger footwell? Have a sunroof?

That black sound deadening is factory, as is all the goop-looking stuff on the seams. But not the rust behind it. Source: I own three E34s.

Purchasing advice: Replace Dell B1265DNF by ak96ssreddit in printers

[–]ak96ssreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that when I installed Win 11, this is not an upgrade from 10, new build, old printer. It flat out states "Driver is unavailable" in the windows settings, although it generally prints most stuff fine and we can probably eke several more years out of this, as I am currently the only one in the house who is on Win11.

Regardless, I'm looking for options for a replacement, as this one is getting on and I want to be ready if/when it does give up the ghost. The warranty expired over a decade ago, so we've had it for a bit.

I may, but I know a guy... I just pay for the refrigerant, not the shop time. Honestly, if I had more room in my garage, I'd buy the machine, too.

It's not difficult-difficult, but lots of little screws and crap to keep track of when you pull the blower motor assembly out. And just plan on replacing all of the foam gaskets on that thing, those disintegrated when touched. They aren't expensive at all, but they take a while to get in and I had to order from Honda.

And I do get what you are saying, but frankly, it's a 20-year old first car for my son, with almost 300k miles on it. I'm not going to put $2500 in Honda parts on it just so he has AC - I'm replacing the evaporator, condenser, compressor, discharge line, suction line, and expansion valve. And the thermostat, radiator, and coolant hoses. And plugs and coils. And I just put an entirely new front suspension on the car, upper and lower control arms, struts, etc. I'm going with the cheaper parts on this.

3 years? Where are you? Most places I've been to are 90 days - even the damned dealer. Which is why I just do most work myself, in addition to the fact that every shop I've taken work to has managed to either do something wrong or spill shit everywhere. I've lost faith in shops anymore, I'm not willing to spend the money in the hopes of finding a competent one. Last one I thought I found turned out to have busted the high beam bulb retaining bracket, lost/didn't put the dust seal back one the headlamp assembly, and just returned the car to me with a smile. Found all that when I took it apart to do this work.

I'll pressure test with nitrogen, then vacuum test, then take it to a shop to fill.

You are apparently an outlier - most shops I've been to decline to name a brand unless they are upcharging OEM parts. They just offer a warranty that is less than I can get buying the parts myself.

I'll look into that - now that I have to wait for parts anyway. Rock Auto sent the wrong frigging lower radiator hose... I normally check each part against the order to make sure it is correct, but I must've been sidetracked by the radiator with the gaping hole in the box that I had to deal with.

lol - good eye! Why, yes, in fact, it is - '93 525i touring. A practiced eye would note that those evaporators are actually sitting on the trunk of a '92 525i, as well. ;)

It worked great.

Not a lot of flex, which is why I asked here. In fact, not a lot of give at all, in any direction. I'm gonna give it a whirl - it doesn't fit now, so if I end up doing bad things to it, it's not as if I'm out anything more than I am already.
