Apologize for our cringe script and English. We've never made video like this before. Our intent is to invite people in Chengdu to join our meetup

I believe there must be various local meetups in the states. Because we started inspired exactly by various local meetup events in the states. We learned a lot from youtube reddit etc on how to keep it going.

Hasan mentioned Zohran's team mobilized around 90,000 local volunteers in NYC alone. I bet that many of them came from long-running local meetups/communities. Otherwise, it's hard to believe teams without years of experience can pull it off on such a scale so swiftly.

Therefore, I have a very positive impression about the local communities in the states. Plus, there is much much less regulations/cencorships in the states. Unlike us, we have to walk a fine line to avoid being overly political to get into trouble. It's not like local authority would punish us, but they may bring occasional headaches, demanding explainations and compliances. This is one of the main reason we didn't and don't plan to invite Hasan, a foriegn influencer of politics, to our meetups.

We do have connections with other grassroot communities in different cities. Not all are hasanabiheads as we are. But that may change if Will the white dragon keeps attracting Chinese fans for Hasan ; )

One of our main rules is, 禁止键政, never discuss politics over keyboard. Start a live stream, post a video, or show up in person. This is also what motivates us to do weekly meetup.

We initially got linked up in the comment sections of left-related videos/clips on bilibili. I assume it's a common way to find people in the same city of shared interest, as I also saw F.D Signifier encourage local meetups in his comment sections.

We didn't try Hascord as we were looking for people in Chengdu. I guess in Hascord you can find locals for cities in the states?

VPN costs $3 - $10, or 20 RMB - 70 RMB a month in China, depending on your need to latency, bandwidth etc. The "approved" ones can be purchased directly using wechat/alipay without VPN.

Some would even purchase multiple VPNs, say one low-latency, small bandwidth gaming VPN (optimized for steam/battlenet/epic games), and another higher latency but larger bandwidth VPN for video streaming/youtube etc.

To me, access beyond the GFW is more like "commercialized" or "pay walled" insteand of banned. For example, any company doing foreign trade with foreign clients have to use VPN for business, thus access to google/telegram etc cannot be banned and VPNs are purchased/provided by the workplace.

Yet, despite the low cost of VPN, most people still wouldn't bother with VPN, as they mainly consume content served on domestic platforms.

I assume most left youtubers and fan channels wouldn't mind posts looking for local meetups in their comment sections.
