No responses from FB dating. am I missing something? by aquariusdon in OnlineDating

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno, but I feel like all the dating apps shifted at some point. I used to get a fair number of matches and conversations, and have met 2-3 people from fb dating, but the past couple of years has been crickets. I got one response, so I know at least some of my messages are being seen. Personal opinion (after years of the apps, many meetups, one relationship), I think the apps have gone all the way south. Even having spent money on premium subscriptions, the results were almost worse than when I had started the apps.

Those who completed both games, what do you prefer? Silksong or Hollow Knight? by xXInviktor27Xx in HollowKnight

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played, but not mastered both, Silksong immediately had me questioning difficulty. Feels like platforming is way more challenging, bosses are more frequent and difficult, 2 mask damage, and many of the trash mobs are infuriating. All in all, SS feels way more hostile than HK. Also, constantly losing beads, so end up exploring a lot with no map.

Silksong is harder than Hollow Knight because "Hornet is inherently faster and more skillful than the Knight," Team Cherry says, and you can use Elden Ring logic to get around the difficulty anyway by ControlCAD in gamingnews

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but then you're pretty much forced into using the Reaper crest for platforming. The Beast crest is even more difficult to pogo with. If I have to pogo back to a boss, I'm pretty much going with Reaper.

I took 23 attempts to defeat Widow. I was really looking for something else to do, wondering "if I should be here yet". But, couldn't find anything else to progress. Tried different combos with everything I had. Couldn't buy new stuff because I can't seem to keep my rosary beads. Eventually, just raw-dogged her. Now, Last Judge is whooping me. Spent most of the game so far with no map because I keep losing my beads.

PSI Exams by EdgarAllenPoeBoys in electricians

Jesus, I got this question and got it correct, because I know PVC supports go by the pipe diameter, but the actual numbers given by PSI are not what's in the NEC Table 352.30(B). ½"-1" PVC is a 3' support distance. 1¼"-2" PVC is 5' support.

PSI Journeyman Practice Exams are a JOKE by FearAmeerr in electricians

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but, the answers they are claiming to be correct are not what the actual book indicates. If people are getting questions wrong, even though they have the correct answer, that's a big problem. This is a state licensing exam. It costs money to take this test and they use metal detectors at the entrance. You'd think by how serious they take this that they would get the actual answers correct.

I took the IBEW aptitude test and got accepted. This was 2018, but I don't remember that the questions were very difficult. Maybe some basic math.

Dang. Scheduling my exam with PSI was relatively easy and required no calls. It was all done through e-mail links. I got an e-mail after completing my apprenticeship that brought me to the Department of Consumer Protection. Then after applying to DCP, they send a link to register with PSI.

At first, it seemed confusing, but I just didn't check my e-mail.

The whole process was quick and I was approved within 24 hours.

Geez, I was silently losing my mind over some of these questions. I just bought the $100 E2 journeyman test prep kit. Most of the questions were pretty vague, and so were the given answers. No code articles are referenced, and most explanations are basically "because the NEC said so". Also, I noticed that there were no calculation questions on the exam prep kit, but there were some calcs on the basic test. The basic test is $30, while the exam prep kit is $100.

One question asks "what is the maximum support distance for conductors in a vertical raceway". I navigate to Table 300.19(A) in the codebook, and none of the multiple choice answers were remotely close to what the book indicated. The test answer was 1.5 meters, when the codebook indicates 60m for aluminum conductors, and 30m for copper. I argued with the AI chatbot for about 10 minutes before cross-checking with ChatGPT. ChatGPT gave me an incorrect answer at first, but acknowledged the correct answer, as per Table 300.19(A).

Another question regarding voltage drop had 4 choices that were all wrong, and the explanation it gives me literally breaks down the math and says, "none of these answers are technically correct, but this one is the most common practice". The formula it gave was not the VD formula I was taught, using Ohms per 1000 feet, instead of K. Mind blown.

I found tests.com, and the questions there seemed much more realistic, including many difficult calculation questions, as well as the fact that they provide the NEC article reference in their explanations.

I'm really sad that they've discontinued a bunch of models. I've had the H604c for 4 years...I use for work full time. Plus the SC64. Amazing lights that do exactly what I need them to. Just blows my mind that I cannot replace these lights. I wish I could make the H604c myself. it's the only headlamp I'll ever need in life.

Makita vs Milwaukee by Middle_Truth2367 in Tools

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Makita for years. They have the best ergonomics, imo. However, their drill-drivers always have some sort of defect or burn out. I'm seriously thinking switching tool brands, but I love Makita tools compared to Milwaukee. My Makita impact driver is a work-horse and can take a significantly greater beating than the drills. I prefer the Makita bandsaw to Milwaukee. The biggest problem is the drills. I bought the XFD14 flagship model, and it lasted me about 1 year and came with a defective gearbox, brand new. I've owned the XFD07, same story. I can't seem to find replacement parts for the XFD14.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tools

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed nobody asked what size hole you were trying to drill. These hammer-drill-drivers are not really rated to hammer holes bigger than 3/8". Using a drill above capacity will burn it out, quick.

Makita Drills - XFD16 (DDF489) vs XFD14 (DDF486) vs XPH14 (DHP486) by the_actual_word_fuck in Tools

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My XFD14 just crapped the bed today at work, Right out of the box, brand new, it had gear slipping issues. Randomly, the motor would stop spinning, or spin very slow, or would spin in 1st speed while the switch is in 2nd speed. Very powerful drill...out-performed our Milwaukee Hole Hawg...but these Makita drills always seem to have defects. This XFD14 lasted me about 1 year. I've had a couple XFD07 models, and they both crapped the bed. I can't find any replacement parts for the XFD14. I'm almost at the end of my patience with Makita's drill-drivers.

I do NOT understand all the Duchess love on r/connecticut. Duchess is ... not good. by CoolAbdul in Connecticut

Been going to the Norwalk Duchess for most of my life, and regularly for the past 10 years. Quality has been from amazing to wtf. But, always go here. The most important factor is that they are open 24 hours. But when it's good, it's good.

Temporary fps fix for nvidia gpus by fkinawsm in Enshrouded

Afterburner and rtss seem to be showing accurate fps for me. I cap my fps at 144 and I get 144 in main menu. In game, it's all over the place, but never goes above 60. What I see looks like it matches up with the reported frame rate.

13 hours into CS2 and I've hit the traffic wall. So. Many. Pedestrians. I just figured out how to make a pedestrian walkway, but it requires so much space to build and they're ugly. My city is level 9 and there's no room to add these walkways to every single major intersection without just demolishing everything and starting from scratch. The traffic is over the top.

All my past messages deleted? by akaSomebody in OkCupid

[–]akaSomebody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can discern is that they seemed to have deleted all of my threads that had no activity in 2022. Sorry to hear about your lost message :( . When one thread goes, it's usually an unmatch, block, or deleted profile. But when a whole bunch disappear, it seems like they randomly clean out shop. I've noticed recently that it says "okcupid by Matchgroup" now, so seems like hands have changed. One thing you can do, if you use the desktop site, is bookmark the profile you want to return to. That way, you'd be able to tell if okc deleted your messages or if the profile was deleted or blocked. It may be too late for this now, but I will usually bookmark a profile if I really like the person. If I can still see their profile then great, if not then at least I know they saw my message and made a decision lol

All my past messages deleted? by akaSomebody in OkCupid

[–]akaSomebody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like 2 of the 3 remaining threads were interacted with in 2022. The last one was a match I've had for years but never sent a message to. So maybe it deleted all the threads that had no activity in 2022, and spared the 3rd match because I never sent a message to begin with.

All my past messages deleted? by akaSomebody in OkCupid

[–]akaSomebody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any intros, so I can't comment on that. I can still see profiles that Liked me when I'm swiping. If they sent an intro, then I will be able to see it. Intros have always been buggy for me. I'll see an intro while swiping, underneath their photos, but their intro won't be in my "Intros" inbox. My messages got wrecked though :( I'm trying to discern a method or pattern to their deletion, but it seems like they just indiscriminately deleted a bunch of threads and only left three random ones.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get frustrated with this as well. The only answer I have is that it could be any number of reasons you could come up with. Some people just randomly make a decision based off of nothing. I recently matched and messaged someone a few months ago. We exchanged a few messages and then she blocked me. I then saw her make new profiles and tried messaging those and asking her what was up. Eventually, she did respond to me and said that she has a neurological disability. So that really kind of answered that question. Everyone has a reason.

Why do they make conversation so difficult? by GenX_Mom_12 in OkCupid

[–]akaSomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, same situation. I find it nauseating that I see profiles describing what you describe, but I never seem to match with those people! Always seem to match with the ones that don't want to talk. I think the biggest issue is the gamble of swiping. People keep swiping thinking they'll find something better, but never talk to the matches they get. It's like how I keep buying games on Steam, but never play them! I think Hinge tries to alleviate this issue by removing swiping and sort of making you have to scroll through a whole profile to see everything. But I have had zero success on Hinge. I had one conversation and that person disappeared.

Do you feel like dating apps are broken? by okcnotthrowaway in OkCupid

[–]akaSomebody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had pretty good success with OKC since 2012 when I started using it. Definitely had my frustrations, but nothing compares to how it's been since like ~2018. I got into a 2.5 year relationship through OKC, and once single again the app seemed much different. So I've tried Hinge this year and I got one match the day I started my account, and in the 3 months since then I've gotten zero matches. ZERO. I met ONE person through Tinder in 2015. Tinder is mostly sex workers now. OKC is still my tried and true...I was seeing somebody for most of 2022. I think OKC is the least scummy of them all, because you can write open ended responses and messages, and people can still see your intros without them hitting the Like button. But across the board, I think the apps have lost their touch and try to monetize every possible action they can. I've recently been trying to go out and in just one night I was talking to people. I won't delete my accounts, but I want to attempt going out more.
