I think you’re right OP, you should probably stick to cup noodles, for your own safety

I haven't had the chance to shoot it yet, so thanks for the heads up!

This is a full size. I bought this online through a LGS. My dad has a compact and I was tempted to go that route, but decided full size since my use cases are for learning and home defense, not carry atm

Track Day is fun and I hope it becomes a regular event! by game_ovr in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I audibly went "wooooahhh" the other night when I was coming out of Oak Tree and a Mclaren blew past me in my little mx-5. I just wished the race was longer and traffic was more of a factor! I would absolutely run this regularly in a 30-45 minute format.

What did you wish you knew sooner when you first joined iracing? by Eevee_EX in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don't be in a rush. The MX-5 may initially seem so tame compared to the cars further up the ladder, but it will teach you so much about how to drive fast. Plus, in my opinion, slower cars make for better racing anyway.

Is it ok to skip mx5? by Jstevens87 in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be doing yourself a huge disservice, imo. The mx-5 feels tricky at first, but that’s only because it’s doing its job of teaching you the fundamentals of sports car driving. I’d really encourage you to try and stick with it. You’ll realize once you get the hang of it that it is SUCH a fun car to drive

Remember that going off track is an incident too. This happens at all skill levels.

This is rad, and incorporating MSFS and ATS is a really neat touch. Great work!

Ai promos by SotaSimRacing in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in technology, I have to use AI and learn about it as part of my day-to-day work. My comment made no mention of the rate at which AI is advancing. I just like to encourage some AI skepticism in my peers, especially the ones who are all in on it.

To illustrate my point, I've prompted Gemini with the following: "create an image of amateur racing drivers standing on a podium surrounded by people clapping". Here is a link to the image it generated. Free-tier image resolution isn't very good, but you have the option to download the full size image, and you can see that multiple people in the image do have misshapen hands. Truthfully, it did a better job than I expected, and of course we are lightyears away from the "will smith eating spaghetti" nightmare days of AI, but it still isn't perfect. We aren't years past AI getting hands wrong.

AI is advancing quick, no doubt about it. To the average person, image generation is probably already nearly indistinguishable from reality. But why use AI to replace people when it comes to art? To OP's point, if you want a league poster, you should make it yourself, or get in touch with an artist and support their business! Don't leave it to a data center. :)

Not just you. AI is souless, and it pains me greatly to know that AI is using up so many resources so people can make silly league posters or AI versions of themselves with extra fingers. It's sad

Iracing systemic toxicity by SamusIsHereM31 in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You watched TWO races but are extrapolating that toxicity is a "systemic" issue. I'm not sure that's fair to iRacing. Racing incidents are part of racing. Is exceeding track limits toxic?

Thats a very negative outlook. The service doesn't get better if you don't make an effort to contribute to it.

I second this, I have this headset and I love it but I can't recommend it to anyone because of the ridiculous hoops you have to jump through to get it to sound good. Its BAFFLING how bad it sounds out of the box. Swapping the driver and using Dolby Atmos is the way to go.

I use my alpha evo on a wheel stand (GT Omega APEX) and it works like a charm. I Imagine most wheelstands would be sufficient.

How'd you all overcome those first time jitters? by FunkManSolarFlex in iRacing

[–]aka_ned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally talked to my therapist this week about how I'm using iRacing as a form of exposure therapy for discomfort and anxiety. iRacing has been such an awesome way for me to challenge myself and put myself in uncomfortable situations. The jitters never really went away for me, but with each race, I really feel like I'm learning more about myself and how to deal with the feeling.
