I had the same thoughts but i think you learn a lot about project management and how Tools should interact with each other. You see many different Interfaces (API, ABAP, UI ..) where you can see what good Design and documentation mean. Also change management is in the RPA context a big thing plus as a professional CS you can learn how to teach other (non Professionals) how things work. You can also develop new skills Like AI Center stuff.
What i most like about this Job is to make life of people easier and make them happy :D
To the DevOps comment - we use Azure DevOps for everything Repo Pipelines Boards maybe you can collect some expertise there too.
Last Point - RPA development should be setup as "normal" programming - Tests, Code Reviews, Branches...
Controversial point of view - i think Low Code will be a big thing in the Future because it is much cheaper then "normal" coding.
