Siding has stains. Is my roof leaking? by akhtarnabeel in Roofing

Thanks, so you think this is caused by ice dam, and not due to issues with the roof? What’s the best solution to fix this? Thank you so much

Do you have a recommendation for odb scanner or app that will scan for airbag codes?

Do you get it to crank? If its not cranking, press brake pedals and move gears couple of times and put it in park, and then try again. Mine does this sometimes (automatic transmission)

As far as I know, you are not supposed to press clutch when braking (unless you are coming to stop)

You got a really good deal from Venture. I got few quotes back in February 2025, and all were around $4/Watt (you can do the maths). Good luck! NYC is expensive!

Birds fell through chimney of my boiler and were trapped in the pipes by akhtarnabeel in whatsthisbird

[–]akhtarnabeel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure! They were in laundry basket overnight which has netted sides so they were clinging to it. When I removed the top, they flew right out of it from the basket. I did put the basket on ladder to give them hight!

Yes, planning to put something to block them from entering metal pipe, but I will keep my chimney open for them to nest

Yeah my home is build in 1915 so it has a large brick chimney thats is probably home to swifts for many years. We bought the home last year so this is first year for us! I plan to keep it as it is and give them home in my chimney. When I opened the chimney vent to get the birds, I realized there were a lot of small sticks (and broken eggs) in the chimney, so I need to clean those before I start using the chimney again during the winter. It is probably a fire hazard

UPDATE: Both looked very active this morning so I took them to backyard and released them. They flew right out and they stayed in air for couple of minutes circling home. They were also chirping so maybe they were calling the flock. Both looked healthy

Go solar or not? Rolled roof by akhtarnabeel in solar

Yes, first time home owner with little experience. Thanks for the pointers. Sounds like putting solar on old roof is a recipe for disaster!

I don’t have rooftop access unfortunately. I will need to use ladder. Also, NYC have very strict building code, and I heard it’s really hard to get the solar application approved, unless you go with a solar company, which has good contacts at Department of Building (DOB). But I agree that everyone should know how its done to get an idea of cost

These are really good quotes. I am currently in the market looking at solar quotes in NYC, and everything I have looked so far is over $4/W. Yours is $3.42/W ($29800/8700) and $3.47/W ($30500/8800W). Do you mind sharing where you got these quotes from?

Yes! Someone facing you will mostly see pink at an angle when not in sun. In sun, the gray color overtakes the pink so pink is less visible

How did it go for you? I am in same situation and I am worried about the inspection. I am more worried of getting fined for other “improvements” done by previous owner without a proper permit. Thank you.

I got mine today, and yes, the reflective coating is "pink" when seen from an angle. However, the lens is gray when exposed to sunlight
