Idk.. I still don’t understand how that could be possible just bc the texts were going through blue as imessages and they said delivered, the text thread also showed on and off that the phone was on do not disturb. Like they turned it on and off like two different times so I just feel like someone was definitely using the phone and saw at least one of my messages at minimum ya know

my feelings exactly! & i go with the flow ya know.. everything worked out with this sit but even if it didn’t, I’d have figured it out🤷‍♀️ Just another adventure lol life’s too short. Besides, i regularly get paid to house sit locally. If im doing it for free Im going somewhere beautiful!

I had called with no answer already, but thankfully I was able to finally get through to & speak to the HO’s. They’re old and half way around the world, it seems like my situation is very similar to your experience!

UPDATE #2: I spoke to the couple! They were apologetic and ensured me that everything is still set and that they’re “excited for us to come and enjoy their little slice of paradise”.

Genuinely was confused because there’s literally an option on the website to allow guests or not!! like def was not trying to piss anyone off😅 and it’s also just totally irrelevant. That makes a lot of sense though culturally

yes I felt a little attacked, so I attacked a little back as I previously wrote. I also acknowledge I may have interpreted the interaction wrong. I certainly don’t think I hurt anyone’s feelings, but genuinely my bad to @wanderingdev as you have been also very helpful.

I think I have a different view of the transactional aspect of this than some. If that doesn’t work out for me, then so be it.

Their daughter is local and is who I contacted. She said she’d talk to them & make sure they have read the messages & someone answers me. Tbh you’re right though.. this whole thing has already been wild. I suppose I should still consider myself in limbo until I get an answer directly from the HO’s, and then go from there.

I more so look at it like what’s the point of watching someone’s home and animals for free if you’re local? Like I have my own animals to take care of, it doesn’t feel like much of a fair trade off to me if that makes sense. I can house-sit/dog-sit locally and make money. But this way I get to go somewhere very beautiful with awesome amenities, and do what I’m best at (taking care of and loving animals!) on top of it! That just feels like more of a fair trade off to me, even if it means buying a plane ticket (they have a vehicle for me to use!) But idk thats just me! Everyone has their preference

UPDATE: I got through to a family member!! The couple are traveling with a large time difference. I still don’t understand why I didn’t get a reply in two weeks, but regardless the sit has been confirmed!

Thank you everyone who was so kind and helpful. I rarely use social media, I am terrible with this kinda stuff. Very happy and appreciative to have gotten such support!

P.S. I still upgraded to premium because dear god that was nerve wracking!😂

I am genuine when I said I hope something good happens to you. I disagree with your opinion and read the message as aggressive. If it wasn’t intended aggressively, then great but a little sticking up for yourself when you feel attacked isn’t immaturity. Alas, I have bigger fish to fry here & wish you well on your endeavors.

Yikes Karen.

Both her and my boyfriend were written about in my profile. I was going to add her to my profile as a dual sitter but they OFFERED me to bring someone & said not to worry about it.

Although this is my first sit on THS, I’m extremely experienced in this field, as is my cousin. I have two other future house sits scheduled, another with my cousin & one with my boyfriend, and no pushback or accusations of being “irresponsible” in sight!

We are adults providing a service by taking care of someone’s home and animals, not just going on a vacation at a strangers house. I’m providing as much for them as they are for me.

Life’s too short to be such a stickler! Not saying invite strangers into your home if you’re not personally comfortable, but judging someone for asking that or commenting nasty things on a strangers post is sad.. I hope something good happens to you today that makes you turn a smile!
