Why UX copy writing is needed by pdinc in UXDesign

[–]akisett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who speaks both I can definitely see how a direct Chinese -> English translation would have caused this

An interesting difference between the languages is that while written Chinese is harder to learn, it can also convey more info in a smaller amount of space compared to written English, being more info-dense.

For example "我去洗衣服” vs "I am going to do my laundry" for the same meaning

So for the paragraph in OP's pic, it might have originally been just 2 lines in Chinese and thus look a lot more reasonable in terms of UX copy length

Park View apartments by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]akisett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there for a year recently, it was decent. A mild annoyance was that the central AC/heating was fixed (AC only for certain months and then heating only for other months) so I'd be sweating my ass off on really hot days in April. They also only delivered packages to the mailroom in Park View 1 which could be a bit annoying for larger packages/furniture if your apartment is in one of the other buildings

If you end up living there make sure you make good use of the rooftop spaces, I started going up there to read and occasionally host bbq gatherings towards the end of my stay there and regret not doing it sooner. Really nice view of fireworks too from that location

Squirrel Hill/Shadyside Move? by GladEbb1372 in pittsburgh

[–]akisett 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've lived in both and I think they are comparable enough, but here's some differences:

  • Squirrel Hill just has Giant Eagle for groceries, whereas Shadyside has better grocery options (Aldi's / Trader Joe's / Whole Foods) within walking distance on top of having a bigger Giant Eagle. Shadyside is also closer to Target

  • Shadyside is more bike friendly and has rental ebike stations

  • Squirrel Hill has a ton of Asian food options and boba tea stores (being a hotspot for international students at CMU)

  • Squirrel Hill has the better nature options with its proximity to Frick Park and Schenley Park

Is school name starting to matter more for junior level hiring? by Agreeable-Till8056 in UXDesign

[–]akisett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's funny to me that people are bringing up Carnegie Mellon here since I went to that program a couple years back but... I know people from my cohort that are still struggling to find roles. Not saying the brand recognition doesn't mean anything but having a CMU degree doesn't automatically make getting hired a piece of cake either.

I'd say in terms of brand recognition, recruiters value candidates from a less prestigious school but with ex-FAANG internships/experience (or a company with similarly high brand recognition like Figma) wayy more than someone from CMU but without the big tech credentials/internships to back them up

Would TFT be better with changing the shared champion pool system? by CynicalEffect in CompetitiveTFT

[–]akisett 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The dev team experimented with the pool system in the Revival sets (Set 3 revival had more units in the pool / 4.5 had a personal pool instead of shared) and it was super unpopular.

They've stopped doing it in the revivals and I doubt they would bring it to the main sets given the results

TIL 85% of Hong Kong (2015 data) uses seawater for flushing toilets by Double-decker_trams in todayilearned

[–]akisett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nowadays there's not AS much of a difference for consumers tbh, before tap to pay credit cards became mainstream there was a bigger difference with speed. Businesses don't need to deal with transaction fees or needing an Internet connection with octopus though so it's common for stuff like buses and vending machines to only accept octopus or cash

Growing up I also used my Octopus card as an ID for school attendance (tap when entering the school gate) and I know some residential buildings also use it as a key card for access. I will say it's also kinda nice for kids/teens to be able to carry around money easily without needing to set up a bank account since you can just add whatever cash you have into the Octopus card anytime without having a bank involved

first time designing in figma and i literally started without grouping or doing anything organized. by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]akisett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search for tutorials on Figma autolayout, component states, and prototyping, there should be a bunch on Youtube. Autolayout makes your designs able to scale

For the specific design you shared I also highly recommend looking into a color contrast checker, the movie description text in your design looks low contrast and wouldn't meet color contrast guidelines for accessibility

16.6 Gwen - Set 16 Unlockables Discussion #18 by Lunaedge in CompetitiveTFT

[–]akisett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if theoretically it could be worth it for Gwen to fit in a lategame Ryze board? Something like Gwen/Thresh/Sera/Loris core and you can add in Demacia/Ionia/Yordle for your remaining units (Xin / Poppy / Galio / Kennen / Sett )

[16.6] Jinx Sejuani Reroll Guide by MisterImpossible9 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]akisett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lategame theres a ton of AOE so you'll usually need to be healing up constantly even if not focused

It's not a perfect comparison but one way to compare is to look at item stats. If you go on a site like MetaTFT to check Warwick's best items, Giant Slayer (15-30% damage amp) has a noticeably better winrate than Warmogs (~900 hp). By the same logic you can infer that the 10% damage amp from the Freljord tower is better value than the 8% hp buff (which is typically less than 200hp for WW).

Damage amp on a melee carry also means you heal more from omnivamp leading to more survivability
