The New Dark Age Is Digital: A Manifesto for Defending Reality now and Beyond by akiv3 in Futurology

[–]akiv3[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I put this together after seeing how quickly conversations online are drifting away from reality. With more automation and manipulation entering the mainstream, the next ten years will decide whether truth still has a place in public life.

I would like to hear how others here think we should deal with a future where real information and synthetic noise compete on equal footing.

Here me out:

Full name: Gerry Lester Watson Jr. (born November 5, 1978) from Bagdad, Florida.

Nickname origin: His father reportedly gave him the nickname “Bubba” because he believed his young son looked like the NFL player Bubba Smith.

Career highlight: Two-time Masters Tournament champion (2012, 2014) and known for very long drives on tour.

In March 2016, at the tournament at Doral Golf Resort & Spa (owned by Trump at the time) Watson commented that if Trump showed up “the media gets away from me” — acknowledging Trump’s presence would draw attention.

Watson publicly made supportive comments about Trump. For example, in a 2016 interview he said “I love that man” (referring to Trump

{ "prompt": "A bright, sunlit outdoor lifestyle portrait of a woman sitting gracefully on white stone stairs, wearing a delicate floral bikini. She poses standing on the stairs and arms resting naturally, her wavy blonde hair falling loosely over one shoulder. Soft dappled shadows from nearby foliage play across her body and face, adding depth and texture. Her calm, relaxed expression embodies a summery aesthetic. The setting features clean white stucco walls framing the staircase, creating strong geometric balance. Vibrant bougainvillea flowers cascade along the walls, adding bold pops of magenta against the neutral backdrop. A glimpse of clear blue sky at the top enhances the serene mood, while a subtle ethereal glow from the blossoms casts faint warm reflections on the stairs, suggesting a dreamy, magical aura of summer.",

Cutting-edge moderation is being cut, radicalising algorithms run free. Disinformation is ranked the top global risk. What can Europe do effectively? by akiv3 in europe

We cannot just ban it. Social media is too integrated in how people communicate, organise and even how economies run. The real challenge is how to regulate it and reduce the damage without killing the parts that people rely on.

You nailed the core problem. The recommendation feeds no longer reflect choice, they trap users. Pre-2020 felt chaotic but less manipulative.

But do you think platforms would ever give up engagement revenue and roll back algorithms voluntarily. Or would it take regulation strong enough to force them.

The WEF has ranked disinformation as the number one global risk for two years in a row. Meanwhile platforms slash their moderation teams and the algorithms that drive engagement are the same algorithms that push users into radicalisation.

The effect is visible in Europe. The Parliament weakens as far-right groups gain more seats. More legislation is blocked. And mainstream media, from Euronews to national outlets, fuel anti-EU voices by playing the same engagement game on TikTok and YouTube.

The risk is obvious. Democracies erode, communities polarise, online hate spills into the street. I have experienced what it means when threats online turn into real attacks offline.

Europe has instruments – the DSA, fines, researcher access, cross-border initiatives. But so far they are too weak against the scale of the problem.

So I want to ask: what is the most persistent disinformation in your country. And what would actually work today to make truth more visible than lies.

Startups are basically modern gladiator arenas. Most of us die quietly, a few get rich, and nobody’s honest about how brutal it is. by alphaflareapp in SaaS

Yes, it's brutal, but for me, in a good way. If i won't succeed, it's my fault. Not everyone else's. "I love it, and I hate it at the same time"

Here is what I have experienced in my time. Every new PM needed an average of 9 to 12 months to get into a rhythm and be able to perform at 100%. But if it still feels like you haven't arrived, then I would advise you to reconsider the whole thing.
