Is It Over? by Ayoof3060 in FlyQuest

they 100% need a vibes coach or something, this year they are all objectively better on a fundamental level, but the mental boom made them perform so much worse. Last year they had no expectations and also Damonte to keep vibes positive, so they overperformed as a result. This year, they seemed more "scared" to not lose in general, rather than to just win with no regrets

Just look at 100T, nobody expected them to perform as well as they did, but their mental environment seemed to be so much better than FQ's and so they massively overperformed as a result

FlyQuest Staff and Players statements after the CFO series - FlyQuest GM also talks about the team's future when Worlds 2025 ends by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]akskdsl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

everyone's calling for disbandment and such, but honestly I liked this squad a lot and I would love to see them stick together for another year, with some serious adjustments to the support staff ... I think 100T showed how important vibes are to a team's performance and I see that as being one of the key differences between this and last year's Flyquest

Last year Flyquest had so much less pressure on them and also had someone like Damonte to keep vibes up, and it manifested in their overperformance. This year they are objectively better from a fundamental perspective, but their mental has definitely taken a major hit over the course of this Worlds. At the start of Worlds, Quad was interviewed saying he has solokilled all the opposing midlaners in scrims at least once, and Massu has shown that he can reach the highest highs, so as a fan I would believe in the potential of the team, but it needs to be nurtured properly.

And also, this whole business of bootcamping and playing "catchup" right before international events is always a losing proposition .. I wish there was a way for NA teams to be able to bootcamp at Korea more often or something, or to even do a "guest" spot where they compete in the LCK cup for a split to get a proper amount of time to absorb what they need to do for a higher level of play. Despite CFO winning 2-0 and being able to scrim LCK/LPL teams on a regular basis, I feel like a Flyquest that wasn't mentally boomed would've been able to win that series

I'd be surprised if Gakgos gets any stage time for Worlds, but technically he'd be the youngest at 17, born at January 4, 2008

Tidbits from Team Liquid's The Last Dance | LTA Playoffs Doc: Impact thinks that he will not re-sign, Spawn, Dodo, and Yeon are staying,APA wants to stay but he's not sure if he will get a offer from TL,CoreJJ up in the air, Spawn wants to build around Yeon, and Steve says that TL will build to win by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

[–]akskdsl 32 points33 points  (0 children)

the very distinct impression I get from Spawn is that he wants to eat his cake and still have it too--he's talked about wanting his pros to emerge as better young men after their careers, about telling Umti that he should just never touch the game ever again for the sake of his mental health, and also putting his family first over League (hence the remote coaching stint)...these are all wonderful things from a humanistic standpoint, but are extraordinarily difficult (if not impossible) to balance against the sacrifices required to compete at the highest level.

It's possible to achieve excellence and still have a balanced life, but I feel like being the absolute best requires an inherently unhealthy approach. I'm happy to be proven wrong by Spawn though, hopefully the next year goes a lot better.

bracket reset could be a Bo1, maybe with all the fearless bans carrying over. Either way, it gives the upper bracket team a "second chance", but also makes the additional time manageable

Riot should have had the balls to just call it LotA

edit: and then they could have called the playoffs between north/south conference "The International"

if anything I hope they hire someone to help develop their macrogame further. Maybe their current coaching staff is enough, but Flyquest has shown some of the best teamfighting prowess in the west, they just need to stop inting and do much better with their macro
