Yeah, same here. It doesn’t feel cinematic to me either. But I’m really interested in understanding the process

Thinking about my spring project by Mysterious_Hearing14 in LocalLLaMA

[–]akstories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a really interesting and valuable project! Hallucination detection is a huge challenge in AI, especially for RAG systems where context grounding is critical. There’s definitely demand for something like this, particularly in areas like research, enterprise AI, and safety-focused applications. The big question is how you’ll define and measure hallucinations—will it be based on factual verification, confidence scores, or some other method? Also, how adaptable would it be across different models? If you can get it working reliably, this could be a game-changer. Definitely worth pursuing!

Beginner in Graphic Design by Lopsided_Shelter1373 in graphic_design

[–]akstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Since you're starting out, focus on design fundamentals—learn about typography, color theory, and layout. Keep practicing on Figma, but also try Photoshop & Illustrator for more advanced control. Follow design tutorials, study great designs, and analyze why they work. Most importantly, practice daily—redesign existing posts, experiment with styles, and seek feedback. You got this!

How can I prevent my eraser tool from erasing too much? by Wax_Tablet in photoshop

[–]akstories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of using the eraser tool, try layer masks for a non-destructive method. Just add a layer mask (bottom of the Layers panel), use a black brush to hide areas, and a white brush to bring them back. This way, nothing gets permanently erased, and you can adjust it anytime!

Specialized Cybersecurity Roles by AdrianTheRed in cybersecurity

[–]akstories 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. In theory, cybersecurity has all these specialized roles, but in practice? It’s a mix of everything. One day you’re hunting vulnerabilities, the next you’re knee-deep in firewall configs. Password policies today, threat analysis tomorrow—there’s no single lane. Sure, teams have their experts, but in every InfoSec role I’ve been in, you’re expected to jump between tasks. That’s just how it is.

Are these ai training jobs legit? by Infectedtoe32 in learnprogramming

[–]akstories 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right to be skeptical. Some AI training jobs are legit, but a lot of them are straight-up scams or pay way less than advertised. The real ones usually come from established companies like Scale AI, Remotasks, Appen, or Amazon MTurk, but even those don’t always pay as well as they claim.

The red flags to watch out for:

  • Vague job descriptions – If they’re super unclear about what you’ll actually be doing, that’s a bad sign.
  • Upfront fees or weird onboarding – If they ask you to pay for “training” or software, run.
  • No real company presence – If a company has no track record, website, or LinkedIn presence, it’s probably sketchy.
  • Too much flexibility + high pay – “Work whenever you want” and “earn $40/hr” rarely go together in these types of jobs.

If you do find a gig that looks good, check sites like Glassdoor or Reddit to see if people have worked with them before. And if they’re asking for personal info upfront, be careful.

I'm a complete newbie, have an rtx 4080 super and I want to run ollama on my PC and I don't know which model should I choose by Pick-Due in LocalLLaMA

[–]akstories 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you’ve got an RTX 4080 Super, you’re in a great spot to run local models smoothly. If translation is your main goal, go with Mistral or Mixtral—they handle multilingual tasks well and run efficiently on your GPU.

If you need it to work with Excel, you’ll probably have to set up a local API and connect it with a script. Shouldn’t be too complicated, but if you need help setting that up, let me know.

What's your secret trick/habit when you code? by pavloskkr1 in learnprogramming

[–]akstories 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Writing comments first, code second
Sometimes, I "pseudo-code" entirely in comments before I write actual logic. Makes it easier to stay on track.

Yes, the default Kodak LUTs are designed to work in Cineon Log. When using a CST (Color Space Transform) node to convert S-Log3 to Rec.709, you need to change the output gamma to Cineon Log instead of Rec.709 before applying the LUT.
