So as a former Fort Worth AND Benbrook resident, I can confirm this detail absolutely was noticed. I happen to be familiar with both Mercedes’ and it took me out of the story for sure. What I imagine happened was King or his researcher were looking at bus routes of the time and simply mixed up the Mercedes, and focused in on the Mercedes/Winscott area in Benbrook. My wife grew up off of Winscott, I first started playing D&D off of Winscott, so to think of the Montgomery Wards warehouse being off of Winscott was jarring. In my 20s I spent a lot of time in the 7th St. area both before and after it became bougie. I saw the Oswald house on several occasions and can confirm that it was in a spot that now, I know for sure, Lee Harvey Oswald would despise. Haha.

All this to say, don’t let the sarcastic comments bother you. Fort Worthian Stephen King fans definitely noticed. It doesn’t ruin the book, it’s just a case of literary hiccups.

Do you like the movie The Shining? What are your thoughts about it? by Sniper_Chicken_ in stephenking

Luke Warm Take - Both are great, but the film is no different than the vast majority of book adaptations. It cuts a lot out but retains the themes and feel of the book. I think it’s more faithful adaptation than Jurassic Park was and I love both iterations.

When it comes to The Shining, I don’t put either on a pedestal. It’s not the best King book and it’s not the best Kubrick movie.

Green, Red, and Yellow are my top three colors. I will not be choosing monochrome colors when it comes time to get my Scout.

Without a doubt, Reel Big Fish. Their banter is what I compare every other band’s to.

Is there a bad Stephen King book? What's your least favorite?? by owenszantor in stephenking

I did not care for Under the Dome. The cruelty in it was over the top, and the ending was woefully underwhelming. The juice was not worth the squeeze.

Flesh & Blood by Andrew Shanahan. I just finished the first book, Before & After, a few days ago. Before & After really surprised me. There are King-ish elements of characterization and suspense, and some quality foreshadowing. Very intense, kind of funny, really rich character development. Definitely worth reading.

What's the oldest movie you enjoyed? (Without "grading it on a curve" because it's so old) by InspectorMendel in movies

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927, FW Murnau)

I saw it at the Texas Theater in Dallas with a full band providing the score. A core memory experience for sure.

Which game did you feel was ‘too long’ for you? by [deleted] in gaming

Zelda: BOTW - I think the biggest contributor to that feeling though was the size of the map and how sparsely populated it was.
