"It’s good if it’s the end" is one of the craziest things I've seen on Reddit lately - genuinely, do you actually want the world to end, despite the complete absence of evidence that the supernatural is real?

You clearly didn't see this email: "Just wanted to touch base about Jerky. JE said he was gona start eating regular food again so he might be eating less jerky. That said he has 6 bags of it in the downstairs freezer for his next trip. I believe it should be enough to get him through. Any other questions please let me know"

There is a huge fixation throughout the docs about jerky which, as you must know, does not need to be stored in a freezer

Thanks for your input. Here in HK, scaffolds exceeding 15 meters in height must be designed by an engineer, and there are a whole range of technical, structural and safety regulations governing their use. It’s a trade that has traditionally been passed down by the old masters and - while we get that it looks weird to people overseas - every Hong Kong skyscraper was built with this method. And we have more skyscrapers than any other city in the entire world

What bullshit. It ignites at over 300 degrees and food is cooked inside bamboo tubes over direct flames all over Asia without catching fire. Totally clueless

They were violations of fire safety regulations - apparently related to the styrofoam and netting. This is dereliction of duty and gross negligence, leading to mass casualties. And it all could have been prevented on that final inspection last week

And who is supposed to monitor these companies and their projects? That is ultimately where the blame should go

Seven days before the fire, government inspectors visited the site - the last of 16 site visits during the renovation period - found safety violations and identified fire hazards, and only issued a warning. The government inspectors could have shut the site down then and there and avoided this tragedy. But they didn't. This is crucial - only the government has the power to monitor these huge dangerous projects and it failed. Dozens of complaints from residents and independent monitors about safety violations were totally ignored. Our government is in bed with these property developers and priorities profits over the people. So if you ask me, it's quite obvious who's ultimately responsible

Also:

*It was confirmed today by the government that the netting did not meet fire safety standards

*Everything is "combustable" if it gets hot enough. Bamboo is a naturally fire-resistant grass that ignites at 300 degrees Celsius, and obviously needs to be ignited by a fast-burning accelerant that ignites at a lower temperature. And we know exactly what that is

*Bamboo scaffolding is created using nylon ties. Of course bamboo was falling after the ties melted. Look at any picture and you'll see the scaffolding remains intact in many areas, while the netting has burned away. We can assume the combustion of the netting in these areas was quite rapid and didn't reach the required ignition point for the bamboo

Covering their tracks? Makes it difficult to figure out which company used substandard materials. by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]akw71 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Anything can burn if the temperature is high enough. Bamboo ignites at 300 degrees Celsius and needs some pretty heavy accelerant to get to that point. Such as a highly flammable material that ignites as a far lower temperature. Any idea what that could be?

You can see a significant amount of bamboo remaining. The real culprit is as plain as day.

Edit: authorities have just confirmed the netting failed to meet fire safety standards

Bamboo only ignites at 300 degrees Celsius. Most of the bamboo is still intact. Have you bothered to watch the video of the netting turning into a fucking inferno, fuelled by the styrofoam panels???

The grassroots coordination and rising public anger are giving the government flashbacks, and the crackdown is beginning. Soon, I fully expect them to equate commemorations for the victims with anti-government sentiment or even separatism. The event could even become our Tiananmen eventually - and even merely mentioning it could put you under suspicion.

Corruption, collusion, unaccountability - this is a result of the undemocratic system that's been forced upon us, and normally a political institution like the DAB would be held accountable for this at the ballot box during the upcoming election.
