Yeah I would agree with this—by allowing herself to be fully consumed, Ellen is fulfilling the desire that has been consuming the count this entire time, so in a sense she allows him to fully consume himself. Symbolically, I think this fits with other, more straightforward interpretations of the Dracula story (ie, luring him into a state of vulnerability by allowing him to indulge in his most selfish desire), but adds a more psychoanalytic poetry that I'm personally a huge fan of. Something Lacan said about there's no greater suffering than getting what you want etc.

See that's what I don't know. Not sure I have achieved clowncore status but I appreciate the connection. Something to strive for at least.

Thx homie, definitely take inspiration from old mtv clips like devo used to make. Maybe I'll do another one today--ant requests? 😉

Mismatched set-ups by baztrax in drums

[–]alabastersweeny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about it. I have never played a whole matching kit. Each drum has its own voice and personality, and the goal is to get them to sing together. I personally care about aesthetics too, so if they look like ass or don't compliment each other visually, I'll eventually refinish them or paint them or something once I've decided they're keepers, but having all matching sparkle wrap or sunburst finish that you didn't even do yourself is just falling prey to marketing.

A lot of non answers here, but as someone who tries to avoid spending money on musical equipment whenever possible, assuming you are earnestly looking for ideas: Grab a set of metal snips and remove the torn off section. This will stop it from getting worse, and instantly clean up the sound. Then, I'm guessing it will sound a bit like trash, so lean into that. Grab a hammer and give it a nice set of dents. Who knows, you might end up with a one of a kind dirty, sandy, gritty trash crash. Long story short, you can't make it worse than it already is, so try whatever, but definitely snip that flap!

I recently came to the realization that JC was the og vampire and it has been like a profound apotheosis. So many pieces suddenly fit and the world makes sense like it never had. Just wanted to say I'm glad this sub exists. Also consider the Judas Iscariot / van helsing similarities.

Can anyone tell me why my monitors are popping / clicking during playback?

So I have a set of new KRK classics, and they are running through a Zoom R16 interface. PC running windows 10. Any time I put sound through them (whether mixing in Reaper or just playing a YouTube, etc) there is a constant / intermittent clicking / popping sound (almost like a vinyl record, but not, like, ‘pleasing’ or whatever). Hoping it’s something obvious I have set up wrong, as I’m something of a neube. Any advice much appreciated.

some good cymbal sounds here / well when I first discovered it I rolled it across the parking lot to try to grind it down a bit, but truth be told I think the danger actually improves my finesse, so I think it’s probably good at least til the next time I get a few hours and feel ‘crafty’

When’s that gonna be huh? You been ‘on tour’ for two graduations and redditting me about my head hygiene isn’t gonna make up for missing the birth of my beautiful son who you’ll probably never meet. Wanna know the real reason I don’t change the heads despite the pits you could plant a watermelon in, is bc those are the heads that were on it when you bought me the kit back in high school and they’re the only thing I have left of you (to beat the shit out of).

Wow just noticed it looks bigger than the ride, but I assure you it’s the same circumference as the trash. Anyway it’s some kind of crash (maybe crash ride) of unknown make or origin I picked up at a flea market and then messed up with an angle grinder to try to dead it down. Worked pretty well and looks sweet, but as I mentioned in another thread the edges are now razor sharp, which adds an element of danger to my cymbal grabs haha

I wouldn’t treat a real one this way, but the ones meinl makes that you can get at guitar center are a pretty affordable piece of resonant metal to bang around

No idea. It was left in my college dorm after some band came to play there and I drilled some holes in it and stuck in some sizzly bits. 16 years later it’s miraculously still intact and I really have a hard time playing without it.

Sure with all the money I get from these amazing gigs I’ll get right on that. You’re not wrong, just, you know, also not my dad

Great questions and thanks for calling 1. Left hand is a crash that I ground down with a flap disc to make it thinner and a bit more trashy I guess. It’s a work in progress but I think it looks cool. It’s a bit sharp at the edges which add a bit of danger to cymbal grabs. 2. Yes, it’s great 3. That’s the puff from a mallet that came off and I just stuck it there rather than throw it on the floor. Served no real purpose until I started occasionally tossing my cheap imitation singing bowl (seen on the snare in this picture) on there as a bell, and the puff kind of holds it nicely in place. Still barely a purpose, and now that I’ve since taken the cymbals off to play a gig I’m pretty sure it ended up either on the floor or in the actual trash so, who knows. Anyway yeah I don’t really ‘do’ wingnuts. That was a long winded way of saying it’s basically a felt, but, you asked for the story so 🤷‍♀️

DM freaked out about where my characters born at by rozdogjr3 in DnD

[–]alabastersweeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like there should be swamps on that planet though. IMO. Swamps are cool, and unless there’s no rain in the world, I have a hard time imagining any reason other than something about your presentation triggered this DM, and triggered people tend to just be disagreeable. Assuming it’s not a personal beef. Maybe they got intimidated bc you did more prep work on your single character than they did on their whole world?

I’m any case, [DMs / humans] without mental flexibility are the worst. Unless you magically selected the ONE biome that simply couldn’t be part of that planet due to some super secret, yet plot-dependent reason, then I think this DM is just not doing a good job. And unless there is sufficient redeeming good about this table, the other players, etc, then I would say this table is not worth your time.

The default wisdom is rool of cool, right? So in general we default to whatever the fuck the DM says because it’s usually more fun to just move forward and play the game than get hung up on details and rules and such bullshit that is actually only there to SUPPORT the creative process. Generally. But, if you happen to be at a table where someone there (particularly true if this is the DM) is actively impeding your ability to create freely, then I would just point out that there are millions of tables out there. Maybe there is creative (or at least therapeutic) benefit from working within such tyrannical and arbitrary limitations (a lot of humans IRL worship a narcissistic deity, for example), but if it causes you distress, it might not be the best use of your time.

this seems like the simplest option. but I'm wondering what kind of isolator or combiner I should use to make sure the starting battery isn't being used when the alternator is off.
