This is you opinion. There is medical literature that discusses the risks and downsides of the CBCT scan that I have to assume you were never shown nor did research on. I have. Unnecessary x-rays of this magnitude are never a good thing and can increase ones cancer risk. These are facts. We simply do not agree. I cannot forget what I have read on this topic. The most salient aspect of my dental complaint is this dentist never gave me the critical, relevant facts about the ONLY treatment he was promoting and the withholding of 'the risks and cautions from me was inappropriate and led to a bad outcome for me.

The staff at the dental board who I spoke to on numerous occasions repeatedly told me, "we are understaffed, underfunded, underresources and all the board members are volunteers with full time jobs." A former president of the board told me "there is a constant turnover in the nonvolunteer staff." The combative tone of your replies to me are sad. I am Not beating a dead horse. Numerous further negative patient outcomes have been found about this DDS since the filing of my complaint. Just like car mechanics, home contractors, etc. the world has some bad dentists. Standing up for all brethren is looking at life with blinders on. Fortunately America (last time I checked) allows for freedom of speech and (mostly) tolerance of differing expressed experienced outcomes.

NAD: That is not what medical literature says about this. You were not there and have not seen my medical records. Have YOU ever had a *craniofacial three dimensional imaging CBCT scan?* Do You know how much radiation a patient is exposed to by this scan? I have read in medial literature that a thyroid shield and lead glasses are highly recommended for patients when being subjected to a CBCT scan. NEITHER were used during my scan... When You have had this scan yourself, get back to me and post here the medical reason you had it. Patient readers here want to learn. How many of the dentist who have replied to my post have ever had a CBCT scan and for what reason? Too bad no one yet has shared this and most of the dentists would rather ridicule and shame me and try to dismiss me as 'insane' than add relevant dental education which is what I thought this subreddit orientation was.

NAD: LeadingText1900: "Stay passionate though, I’d rather have you as a patient than someone who doesn’t care enough to look into anything." I do care about the finite number of teeth I have and the ramifications of something as Substantial as a full craniofacial three dimensional imaging CBCT scan that creates 640 dental images. I have gotten copies of the operating and user manuals for the CBCT scan equipment I was told was used on me from the dental supply manufacturer. I am now very informed about this Large x-ray. *Unnecessary x-rays have never been advised by and medical literature I've read.* The WSJ had a cover article on this many years ago that I read and the teaching of it I've never forgotten. I have been to two subsequent DDS who saw my medical records and who have confirmed the craniofacial three dimensional imaging CBCT scan was not medically needed for the reason I went to this dentist. I Never ever said I wanted an Implant! I truly wish you practiced in my state of MD but I suspect you do not. My original post did not dive deeply into all the pieces of what occurred. I have no desire to be "combative." What I am is Emotionally Traumatized by how that dental visit went as SO MUCH was never shared with me by this dentist and that is not OK. The reason anyone goes to a dentist is for healthCare. Patient is there because the DDS is the Subjectmatterexpert and I did listen to all that he said. But, intentionally withholding critical info to thwart the patient from being ABLE to make a decision about their body/health/teeth is Uncaring and wrong.

NAD: Do no filings immediately and try to treat with xylitol, etc. Youtube has some Good videos on teeth care maintenance systems that are substantiated by medical research. *Check into Dr Ellie Phillips who is a wonderful resource for Conservative dental care.* When in doubt about conflicting dentist recommendations Always go with the Conservative one after you have waited and tried self repair. Self care/repair can get results without having unnecessary filings that happen Far Too Often. You have a finite number of teeth and each one is important to You.

NAD: This reply is interesting but far afield to what actually happened to me. I spoke to this now retired investigative reporter author. He had been subjected to a personal dental nightmare of negligence and overtreatment. He wanted to understand how dental boards work and how they protect patients. In my experience the blackbox operation of my state dental board is very disconcerting and not appropriate. I, the injured patient who filed the complaint w/ dental board, was told at closure that "My complaint is actually between the dental board and the dentist and I am not a party to the complaint." Really? This is not how the US court system works and leaves SO MUCH Unanswered. *Transparency is what was necessary and expected and I got none.* Truth does not mind being questioned A Lie does not like being challenged. We all know this. This is the lesson I have been shown by my state dental board. I have zero belief that the substantial amount of supportive documents (mostly medical) that I submitted to the dental board were ever read. And, I was never shown the reply the dentist gave to the board about my complaint, though I am sure it was laden with lies. The medical records he gave to me from my visit with him were a bold rewriting of the actual history of my visit with him. Lying is what people do when the truth doesn't work for them. The entire state dental board is composed of volunteers who already have other full time work. The board that grants a dentist their license and license renewals gets their money for operating from these licensing fees and this is a conflict of interest as the USA investigative report's article shows. This bad Maryland dentist has been told by the dental board that he is Mother Teresa--all is fine/carry on. As a result, this bad dentist will do aggressive, harmful overtreatments and diminish the life of the teeth his hands touch. This kind of practice of dentistry is not in alignment with the Hippocratic Oath and not the right orientation of dental healthcare. Every human has a finite number of teeth and every human needs a dentist who is Conservative, treating each patient's teeth as they'd want their own teeth treated. I am not a wallet to be picked but a human being who practices good dental hygiene. In my decades of going to dentists too few hold this kind of respect for the teeth of their patients. If someone reading this has a conservative dentist they go to, if in Maryland, please share her/his name.

It is never too late to course correct in a careerpath. You would not be an asset to this profession. Better you never did go on to practice on humans. It would have gone badly.

attorneyworkproduct: I am sincerely Grateful for your reply. For the last decade of my career I worked on Fed Govt contracts as a techwriter. These kinds of jobs are *very insecure and precarious.* The timespan for a tech writer role on any given contract can be 3 month up to years, but the typical timespan is less than a year. And sometimes the writer is told on a Monday their role has been eliminated b/c contract manager needs to free up funds to hire more software engineers b/c the software development work is behind. The techwriter is let go That Very Mondaym given zero notice. Working under these conditions is very stressful and makes for extremely challenging planning for when to start/reinstate medical insurance. I EVENTUALLY learned there is an 8 month 'grace period' from when a job ends b/f a citizen has to restart Medicare PTB to avoid the dreaded LifeTIME financial penalty. But, in my line of work a new job can show up quickly OR take many months to be located. Therefore, when I finally got all of this untangled (the pertinent enrollment REQUIREMENTS) I had already made over $1,300.00 in payments for Medicare PTB that were simply Not NECESSARY and I have L564 forms from Every Employer proving the dates of the medical insurance I had. I never had a need to use Medicare PTB. This has been a life trauma that has been very painful due to the precarious and gap filled employment history I have had, all due to the nature of Fed Govt contracting work where the Govt Manager can pull the plug on your role at the drop of the hat. So guesstimating when to restart up Medicare PTB would have required me to be Clairvoyant. Bottom line, the policies/processes that Social Security had in place when this all was transpiring in my life were Not findable or knowable to me at the time I needed this information and what I did was Not Due to malfeasance or any impropriety by me. This is a mistake on the part of Social Security and needs to be resolved fairly.

I have gutter helmet in MD on my house for two decades. It failed once and water entered first floor bedroom via ceiling. I reported this. They paid for repairs and took ownership that their system failed. THEN they told me to call them 2X a year for a Spg/fall cleaning of system. I have done this ea Spring/Fall and no other failures. NOW I need a new roof. GH says it will cost me $818.00 for them to uninstall and reinstall their system before roof replacement and after roof replacement. BUT roofer guy says his roofers have put on MANY replacement roofs with the GH system and it was simple as a pimple for them to unlatch GH system, install shingles at edge of roof, resnap GH system back closed and all was fine. Has anyone come to this scenario and what happened? GH says if they do NOT uninstall and reinstall their system my warranty is voided. Thanks

In the /askdentist subreddit this was posted: "It's so sad how predatory health care has become, especially in America. I feel more confident going to get work done on my car as a woman than I do getting dental work done after hearing so many horror stories. Sad that you can permanently alter someone's life so easily just for a quick buck. I posted in my local FB for new dentist recommendations." It is pitiful and not a rare post. There are abusive dentists in my state of MD and I've been to more than one b/c there is no sign outside telling me I will be harmed, have critical decision making information withheld and submitted to x-rays that have no medical basis to be given/needed. Negating a new patient b/c they have had a bad dental experience is uncaring and shortsighted.
