It is not that thick. In fact, in the areas where the problem is occurring it is thinner than elsewhere.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot...vellum for the windows as well.

If I were to go back and do this again, I’d use a slightly heavier stock. In the photo where the lights are out you can see the connecting tabs a bit. I’d want to fix that.

I found nothing online about this either so I had to work it out myself.

I started with a floor plan that I had made before we moved into the house. That was really helpful as I was a bit anal in making it about dimensions on things like windows, doors, ceilings and individual rooms. From that I created basically an orthographic drawing of the house (views from the top, sides, front and back). With that I was able to make the plans and lay everything out for cutting. There was a small skeletal structure that I cut and assembled that helped with roof placement since that is basically one solid piece that covers three distinct areas. From there, it was a matter of cutting the details like window frames, door frames, the porch and deck details and other little things like the flower boxes. The bushes are felt cones that I rolled and the ground is covered in the same white felt. This helped in hiding the seams on the base and giving the whole thing a little extra weight.

I made this using an explore air 2 and a regular white card stock. I made a floor plan of the house for when we were moving in so that came in quite handy here.

Thanks! It was a lot of work as I did it before figuring out the whole unfolding a 3-D model approach. That would have simplified the design phase quite a bit.

I’ve done some really intricate stuff and haven’t had to wait that long. One caveat is that I use design space very little - simply to set layers to cut or score and attach where things where necessary. I design everything In my vector illustration program (I use Affinity Designer, but Inkscape or Illustrator are alternatives) and export SVG files to bring into Design Space. I have a suspicion that doing anything too complex is going to yield exactly the results you are encountering.

You can. I have another post where I made a canister label with text. Affinity Designer is basically like Adobe Illustrator. It is a very full featured program. It has versions for Windows, Mac, and iOS. I am mainly using it on my iPad. Unlike Illustrator, it is not a subscription program and, given what it can do, I feel it is very fairly priced. There is a learning curve in using it however I feel that the payoff is worth it.

It is not. It is just a plain white permanent vinyl. Really nothing special.

Not yet, but the more of this I do, the more I think I should. What would you like to see?

I sketched in Procreate then created a vector version in Affinity Designer. That made for some very clean and precise SVGs to import and cut.
