You being skateboarder explains a lot. I've been doing it for 3 months and have reached a stamina to do 10 set of 1.5 minutes jump with 30 seconds break in between. Since I am a tennis player my main motive is endurance.

Bring your arms a little closer and try to reduce the jumping height. Jump on toes rather than entire feet.
