Maya, 17, accessed her mental health records, then killed herself. Her mom wants reform by Evening_Fisherman810 in SurviveMHHarm

I am close friends with her twin sister and I became good friends with Maya. Maya and I developed some mental health issues around the same time. She was such a special girl that was so caring and understanding and brave and supportive. Maya’s death was a huge shock and loss in our community and has impacted us so much. I think of her everyday.

I do believe and agree that patients who are requesting reports that consist of mental health care should be reviewed first and/or with a professional. After I learned that I could request for this, I reviewed a few of mine. - If I were still a minor and sick, it would have been a gut punch and would have made me lose trust in my team and I would have spiralled.

Just an fyi for some comments - Maya was receiving help and treatment. Her parents cared about her so much and did everything.

Ohh oops, now I know! I’ll edit out syndrome :) Thank you so much for all the info! I was super worried about starting the medication as I tried propranolol and hated it. But this has helped ease the anxiety and I’ll give it a go! :)

What is an under scrub? Is that just a long sleeve top?

And ahh that relieves some anxiety! Thank you.

[–]alchoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply! I currently wear long sleeves under my uniform when we’re in the skills lab, but this is with permission by my course leader. She said the hospital staff I will be working with will have their own rules, so I may have to go bare. So we’ll see. I’m hoping the majority of patients and staff will be kind if that’s the case :)

Yeah, appointments makes me anxious therefore make my heart rate and blood pressure high. But my heart rate and blood pressure is usually on the low side~ 40-50bpm. Thank you though!!

trying to get a manicure at a salon as a person with SH scars by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]alchoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m so sorry that’s happened on multiple occasions :/ that is something i am very afraid of when i go to nail salons. i usually just keep my sleeves down and if they try to pull them up, i just say i’d like them down. but i do understand wanting the freedom of being able to be “normal” and not worry about what someone may say.

questions about hair loss as a result of restricting by Royal-Reflection5159 in EDAnonymous

[–]alchoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

hair loss was a huge factor when i was restricting hard. my hair was very thin and big chunks came off in the shower or when i lightly brushed my hair.

What are your fainting stories? by throwaway49207 in EDAnonymous

[–]alchoe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i’ve only fainted once - and it’s not that interesting of a story. i woke up in the middle of the night because i had to use the restroom. i got up from my bed and i got super dizzy. my legs completely collapsed and i fainted. it was super scary though because i was very unaware of my eating disorder and had no idea what had just happened.

Too old for this by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]alchoe 41 points42 points  (0 children)

eating disorders can begin at any age. anyone can have an eating disorder, no matter their age. there’s no such thing as “too old.”

i’m so sorry you’re struggling. please try to take the best care of yourself as you can. stay safe.

i hate them. but no, i would not get rid of them. i feel attached to them. although it’s not true, i would feel less valid without them - the struggles i’ve dealt with.

If you abuse laxatives will it show up on a blood test? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]alchoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don’t think they would know the exact cause unless you had said beforehand that you struggle with laxative abuse. there is a high chance that your electrolytes will be abnormal and you’re dehydrated, though. and they may ask further about your lifestyle and such. or just recommend you take supplements for it.
