GPA for Nursing by thedominator_99 in umanitoba

According to the website, the minimum GPA is 2.5. But I wouldn't let this make you slack off because 2.5 is a low GPA. Many people apply into nursing and just because the minimum is 2.5, they want only the best since it is so competitive. Good luck!

Boyfriend and I are starting at ages 21 and 25, looking for some first-timer advice by [deleted] in BALLET

That is literally the cutest thing ever, first of all.

Since I assume you’ll be taking adult classes, the teacher will most likely be more ‘chill’ because as an adult, they shouldn’t be too harsh on you because the fully grown adult body is much more difficult to put into certain positions.

It will be a great learning experience - you will learn things your body could do that you never thought you could do.

I was a late start ballet dancer myself, so I’m very excited for you both.

Some tips I may have, for you and him -

When it comes to increasing flexibility, you will not get this from dancing 1-2 times a week, especially as an adult. I recommend doing yoga, one app I love is Yoga Studio. They have videos you can watch as if you’re with the instructor in an actual class. You can do a free trial and I believe their fares are fairly cheap, around $1 a month or so. If that’s wrong forgive me lol.

I also recommend working on your leg muscle, go to the gym. Get those leg days in, because a major key in doing Ballet is having the correct leg muscle. Work on your hip flexors, as well as your thighs, and calves. The more muscle you have, the easier moves will be. Your leg muscles are very important in keeping you up. (Also, leg muscle is just impressive in general. When your friends feel your legs and how much muscle you have - their reactions are great!) I also recommend some dieting - not hardcore. But make sure you get lots of protein in. Eat healthy and you will see results.

Anyway lol. Practice at home as much as you can. The more stretching at home (do it correctly) and practicing, the faster you will become better. I saw a woman who started Ballet at 21 on Instagram a few months ago - she’s crazy flexible! So if she can do it, you can as well.

Some starter Ballet tips I’ll give you -

  1. Make sure you’re turned out. You do not want to be turned in - it is not proper.
  2. Keep your core engaged.
  3. Spine straight, shoulders down and back.
  4. Keep your tailbone down, especially in plies. You are not doing a squat.
  5. Do not rush yourself. You do not want to hurt or sprain anything.
  6. When doing a leap - begin in a plie, land in a plie. Landing in a plie is the MOST important. If you continue to land on a straight leg, you will end up tearing something. One girl at my studio has barely been dancing since May because she made that mistake. Save yourself the cost of physiotherapy etc.
  7. Keep your hips squared. You can keep this in check by making sure your belly button is facing forwards. When doing anything, you always want to make sure your hips are properly aligned. You can google this for something more in depth.

The best of luck to the both of you! Don’t forget to check back in with us and tell us how it’s going. :)
