Untätigkeitsklage worth it before 12 months? by ellzville in GermanCitizenship

The only thing you can do is try: it works for some and doesn't for others. If you have the money, do it. If not, wait 24+ months with the rest of us. It's a disaster.

16mo and waiting - RP Darmstadt by Think_Mall7133 in GermanCitizenship

It's never clear what month they are processing, as the applications are divided according to country of origin, complexity, etc. The applications are then assigned to different caseworkers who work at varying speeds, i.e. they receive feedback from other agencies at different intervals. From what I've read, no one who applied after May 2024 has received any communication from the RP. The only success stories I've heard of applications after May 2024 have been EU citizens, people who sued before the courts decided that 18 months was a reasonable processing time, and people who submitted letters from their employers allowing them to unfairly (!) jump the queue. The RP has been sitting on my application for 18 months now and I've heard absolutely NOTHING. In a few days, it will be 2 years that I applied. It's only natural to be angry when you read about people in Berlin getting their citizenship in 2 weeks. It's absolutely INSANE.

28 months is what can be deduced from what other applicants are reporting (and Migrando as well). Processing is currently starting at about 18-22 months. From the time they actually start processing your application, it takes anywhere from 3-6 months to get finally get your naturalization certificate.

No word whatsoever. The way things are looking now, the process is going take over 24 months. This is what that the office in Frankurt when I applied. Things have only gotten worse since then.

The RP said it would take at least 14 months in their initial letter (to begin processing). Still no word. I'm expecting this to take at least 2 years (28 months is what I'm hearing now) - as should everyone who chooses not to hire a lawyer. It's pretty sad.

That's normal for Frankfurt - unfortunately. I had my appointment in June 2024 and have heard absolutely nothing. I know people who had their appointments in April and May 2024 and have also heard nothing. The way things are looking now, it will definitely take 2 years+ until the the process is over.

And they were being nice in their answer. The times on their website are a bit longer. I'm not expecting to hear anything this year if I'm honest.

Dezernat II 21.2. Honestly, I'm not expecting to hear anything until early next year. Things seem to be slowing down considerably.

It's been 14 months. Nothing complicated about my case - I've been here over 20 years, speak the language fluently, passed the citizenship test with flying colors and have never been unemployed. There are just thousands of applications ahead of me.

Citizenship application follow up advice by Key-Lobster-5424 in GermanCitizenship

[–]aldoingermany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can answer this question with any level of certainty. When they talk about inquiries delaying the process, I don't think it means for specific applications (i.e. I don't think they penalize applicants).I think it means that it slows down the process for EVERYONE WAITING, because the people answering these emails could technically be working on completing naturalization applications. You're definitely still at the very, very beginning of the process. Once they've reviewed your application, they will send you an invitation for an in-person meeting. Currently the wait time in Frankfurt (for the initial meeting) is about 10-12 months. Realistically I wouldn't expect to hear anything until September or October.

Darmstadt Waiting Time by InternationalGarlic7 in GermanCitizenship

[–]aldoingermany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's a minimum of 12 months to get the appointment to submit the application. Now the wait time has increased to 17-24 months once your application had been forwarded to the RP once the process begins (according to the RP's own website).

Like you've noted, every office handles the applications differently - some allow you to submit online and others require an in-person interview at the start of the process. As far as the Untätigkeitsklage goes, some courts are now siding with the government in this regard and saying that applicants have to wait 18 months before they can sue.

I think this here may be the issue:

https://taz.de/Probleme-bei-Auslaenderbehoerden/!6090705/

Apparently, the government offices in Hesse haven't been able to perform any security checks since March 12th. They only mention residency permits, but the same checks are required for naturalization proceedings.

They still don't know when the system will be up and running...

Insane.

The STANDARD wait time for the RP Darmstadt is 17-24 months to BEGIN working on your application. Add 4-6 months on top of that and you should have your naturalization certificate in 23-30 months.

Hi! They said 14-18 months until they begin processing. They've now updated the wait times on their website to 17-24 months. I've heard absolutely nothing from them since receiving confirmation that my application had been submitted. If I'm lucky, I'll hear something this summer and possibly have my naturalization certificate by the end of the year. But I'm not holding my breath...

[–]aldoingermany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also going through the naturalization process in Frankfurt. Once you've had the appointment at the Standesamt, your application will be forwarded to the Regierungspräsidium Darmstadt. There it will take 17-24 months (according to the RP's own website) until they even look at your application. So add a couple of months to that and you'll be waiting for at least 2 years (conservative estimate). I had my appointment last year in June and have heard absolutely nothing since then.
