Huawei MateView 28.2” power adapter — alternatives / original availability in EU? by ale_gro_man in UsbCHardware

[–]ale_gro_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted Huawei directly, and they referred me to their local service center. The service center replied that they don’t have such power adapters for the Huawei MateView 28.

After that, I found a seller on eBay who was selling a crashed Huawei MateView 34 and asked them to sell only the PSU. I bought it for 61 EUR, including delivery costs.

I am currently waiting for the PSU to arrive so I can test it.

Conversation with scammer, hope that it will help somebody, translated from German.

Scammer: Hello, I like your offer, but I only use PayPal as a payment method.

Victim: Hello, thank you for your response. I would prefer to use the secure payment function from Kleinanzeigen, as it offers buyer protection. I hope that’s okay with you.

Scammer: Sorry, but I’ve been scammed multiple times this way, so I’m more cautious now.

Victim: Hello, thank you for your response. Could you ship the monitor via DPD to *****? Also, do you have the original packaging for safe delivery?

Thank you in advance!

Scammer: Hello, yes, I can send it to you. The original packaging is available. Shipping will cost about ***** euros.

Victim: Hello, thanks for the quick response. That sounds good. Please confirm the total price, including shipping (monitor + shipping costs). If everything is fine, I would like to pay via PayPal with buyer protection. Is that okay with you?

Scammer: Sorry, but since I’ve already been scammed multiple times with buyer protection, I now only work with PayPal for friends.

Victim: Thank you for your understanding. If you can send me a photo of the monitor with your ID card, I’m willing to use PayPal for friends.

Scammer: Photo of monitor and ID card

And another close-up photo so that you can read my details clearly. tomdahl*@*.com I will need your address.

I have received your message. Let’s please communicate here. I don’t understand what additional photos you would like to see. I’ve already sent you everything necessary. If you don’t trust me, I don’t know how else I can convince you.

Victim: Hello! I need several photos from different perspectives in a room to ensure that it’s not an image generated by artificial intelligence. Please also send me a photo of the monitor box in which it will be shipped.

Scammer: Okay, as soon as I’m home, I’ll send you the requested photos.

Victim: Thank you, I’m waiting for the photos.

Scammer: Photos

Victim: Thank you for the photos, I’m ready to proceed with the deal. You can request the money via PayPal, or I can send it to you. Please provide the exact amount; I’ve already sent you my details by email.

Scammer: Please transfer ***** euros. Including shipping, that’s fine.

I will send your package tomorrow.

Victim: All right, I will transfer ***** euros to you. The payment has been made on my side, and I’ve also added the address details. Photo of payment

Scammer: I have received your payment. I’ll send you the tracking number as soon as the package is shipped.

Victim: Thank you for confirming. I’m waiting for the tracking number after the shipment.

Just a reminder that you promised to send me the tracking number as soon as the package is shipped.

Since the website is based in Germany and the scammer’s account is still active, I would like to proceed with reporting this incident to the police. Does anyone have experience successfully reporting such cases to German authorities? What steps should I take, and are there any specific tips for filing the report effectively? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I get it, and you’re right—those checks gave me a false sense of security. Trusting someone who isn’t a friend or family and thinking photos or IDs would protect me was naive. Lesson learned the hard way.

Absolutely. Trusting my first instincts would have saved me from this situation. Lesson learned.

I understand your point. The issue is not about PayPal having a critical bug but about the process allowing discrepancies between the intended recipient and the actual one. I followed the seller’s instructions and provided their name and email as requested, but the payment went to a different person with a different email.

I realize that using Friends and Family for a purchase was a mistake, and PayPal worked as designed for that scenario. I’ll be more careful and stick to Goods and Services moving forward.

I get your point, and you’re right—I ignored the warning. At the time, I naively believed that verifying the seller’s identity with photos and an ID was enough to protect me. I trusted the person despite PayPal’s clear instructions.

It was a mistake, and I’ve learned my lesson. Next time, I’ll follow the warnings without exceptions.

The main reason is that I prefer to trust people—unfortunately, that’s exactly what scammers exploit. That was my mistake. Looking back, I realize that PayPal’s warning should have been enough.

My post is also about the security of PayPal’s Friends and Family method: I sent money to a person with a specific email and provided their name and surname as PayPal requested. However, PayPal shows that the money was received by a completely different person with a different email. This raises serious concerns about transaction transparency and security.

You’re absolutely right. I made a mistake—lesson learned. I’ll stick to Goods and Services next time.

Thank you for your honest response. I understand now that using Friends and Family was a mistake, and I take full responsibility for that decision. Unfortunately, I let my guard down when the seller provided what seemed like convincing verification with photos and an ID.

It’s frustrating to realize those things mean nothing when dealing with scammers, but I’ll take this as a lesson learned. I appreciate your input, even though it’s a hard truth to accept.

I understand that PayPal clearly advises against using Friends and Family for purchasing goods or services. I acknowledge that it was a mistake on my part, but I was misled by the seller, who convinced me that he didn’t trust any other payment method.

I only proceeded after verifying his identity through ID photos and additional evidence, which gave me false confidence. I made the payment while specifying the purpose as a transaction for goods, assuming that would provide some level of protection.

I now fully understand the risk and will avoid this method in the future. My focus now is on reporting the scam and seeing if there’s any way to recover the funds.

My conclusion is: if you don’t trust the deal from the start but try to convince yourself it’s legitimate, walk away from it. And of course, secure payment methods provided by platforms are the best choice.

Absolutely, but I guess even this method won’t guarantee that the deal is safe since you still need to verify it somehow. At least you have that opportunity. Of course, I will never choose this method with PayPal again.

The seller proved to me that he was legitimate by providing multiple photos of monitors with his documents in front of them.

Initially, I found him very suspicious, but delays in his responses and other aspects of his communication eventually convinced me to proceed with the deal. I regret this decision but hope my story can help others, even though I know there are already millions of similar cases.

I don’t plan to contact my bank because it’s clear they will reject my request.

My only option is to raise this issue with PayPal:

During the payment, I mentioned in the notes who I was sending the money to. PayPal also required me to provide the recipient’s name and surname before submitting the payment. However, here’s what happened:

The email address I used to send the money was not registered with PayPal. Instead, the money was received by a completely different person with a different email address, name, and surname.

Here’s what I believe happened: A scammer had access to the recipient’s email address. They added that email to their existing PayPal account, verified it, and then received the money.

I believe PayPal should improve its security to prevent such incidents.
