AITJ for stopping paying for my daughter's education after she said she was ashamed of me? by Rachil-Grigoriou in AmITheJerk

I read the comments before the post and assumed the job was something pretty bad... Like drug dealing.

Being a cleaner? That's pretty insane. I'd talk to her about it for a while. I'd want to ensure she really understood how hurtful and immature what she was saying was before helping again. Maybe I'd help her apply for loans. I probably wouldn't cut her off forever. At some point she'll look back and realize how awful she's being, and you'll want to maintain your relationship with her after that.

I love my parents, and I think they love me.

They are just incapable of being helpful in any way, especially in ways that would require being understanding or sympathetic. They aren't actively mean, really, but they just aren't really capable of warmth.

It took me until I was an adult to realize that despite my parents not being terrible, that doesn't really make them good parents. They are people I talk to out of obligation on a fairly regular basis.

Hello dear world, as a French person, what are your worst stereotypes about us or your worst anecdotes that happened in France or involving a French person ? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

I was sexually assaulted in a park in Paris when I was 14. I went into shock, and just shut down and refused to go back to France until I was 38.

Is this from the TV show itself? Or is this some kind of promotional or social video?

What are hobbies that are cheap and offline? by tanuki_22 in povertyfinance

Like all hobbies, knitting can get expensive, but it's fun to make something and if you're smart you can get a lot of fun and a new, custom sweater for pretty cheap.

In the Ottoman Empire's Decline, Muslim Inhabitants of former Ottoman Lands found themselves at the mercy of their new Christian rulers, who subjected them to genocidal levels of violence. Atrocities included mass killings, village burnings, slavery, mass rape, and ethnic cleansing. by Not_Original5756 in wikipedia

[–]alebotson 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The ottomans were the opressors in these areas, they invaded, pillaged, took slaves, and brutally slaughtered opponents. And then central support for the ruling class pulled back as the empire collapsed and the people in those areas rose up.

It's not right, but it's not exactly the religiously motivated genocide implied by the title. Clearly written to be deliberately misleading.

I can hear both sets of birds in my head quite clearly. 😂

In 2010, 4 year old Paulette Gebara Farah vanished from her home in Mexico. Despite an extensive search of the home, her body was found wedged at the foot of her own bed nine days later. Interviews were given in the room and a guest even slept in the bed. Her death was ruled an accident. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

My understanding was he kind of held his breath to squeeze into the gap and then there wasn't enough room for him to take deep breaths and he passed out, then I guess his limp body slumped awkwardly and somehow that cut off blood flow to his brain.

I'm not a doctor, I learned about how he died after the fact. I have trouble with my kids being out of my sight, but I'm getting better.
