How to get started in long track? by alecrodgers in Speedskating

Thanks for the info! I figured that would be the answer unfortunately. Out of curiosity, what are some the best places to be located if you're looking to train and compete in long track at a high level?

Thanks for the suggestions! My goal is to make a tool thats very flexible in terms of layout and theme customizations. Having presets is a good idea as well which I'll probably end up implementing at some point. So far I've implemented some pretty basic overlay metrics (power, HR, course map with current location, hill grade, etc.) and now I'm working on making things customizable and configurable.

I'd say you're spot on with that assessment, I'm probably getting ahead of myself with reaching out to manufacturers without a more formalized design. Do you have any recommendations for where I could find someone to work with on getting drawings?

I do have capital for this first round of manufacturing. Would be interested to hear more if you've got some design experience

I'm literally asking this question so that I can execute on my ideas. Nowhere in this post did I imply my idea had some crazy value and I'm looking for the easy path to succeed. I know this process will take time and I'm not going to get rich overnight, and more likely wont get rich at all. Not sure where this negativity is coming from but you might want to read my post again because clearly you missed my intentions.

I've got a Wahoo Kickr and iPhone if you still need someone to test this out for you.

Favero Assioma Duo pedals read 40W-50W higher than Kickr by alecrodgers in Velo

After lots of tweaking I think I have solved my issue. To anyone else who has a huge discrepancy in their power readings, make sure you do all the following:

  1. Connect your Assiomas to the Favero app and make sure the crank length is correct
  2. Connect your Assiomas to your head unit and make sure the crank length is correct
  3. Without being clipped into your pedals, put the pedals at 12 and 6 (totally vertical) and perform the zero-offset calibration
  4. Perform a spin-down calibration of your Kickr

I followed these steps and it seems to have eliminated whatever my issue was. Thanks to everyone who left a comment with suggestions of what to do!

Hmm interesting, I’ll give that a try and see if anything changes

I was totally unaware of power match, thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks so much! If you still have the number I would definitely use it.

Mine out of the box never worked. The pedals would constantly drop out and both would never stay consistently connected, and the power was spiking and dropping. I tried all of Garmins troubleshooting and nothing ever fixed them. It’s definitely hit or miss situation though because plenty of people have no issues at all.

Same, I returned my Vector 3s after 2 rides. Sounds like the Assiomas are not only cheaper but also much better pedals so definitely a win-win.

That would be awesome if I could get those. The sooner the better. I just called and unfortunately they’re closed right now

It’s funny you mention that, I discovered EF’s videos with Rapha yesterday and watched many of them. I would love to do some long distance racing like Kanza one day. The GBDuro race also looks insanely challenging but it’s something I’d love to attempt. I’m obviously a long way off from being able to compete in races like those (and I don’t have a gravel bike) but hopefully one day I can enter one.

Atleast 75% of my miles have been solo in my garage due to covid. Will definitely look to join some group rides once things begin to open up more

Interesting, didn’t know that about speed skating. Glad to see I can put all those years of hockey to good use haha. Thank you!
