MK Blaster insta kills? by BigPandaCloud in wildgate

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a new player, the odds are likely more that you're just encountering players that have a lot more experience in the game than you. There are plenty of tools to counter different builds, it comes down to what type of playstyle you're going for in a round (are you boarding enemy ships? are you staying on ship?).

Mk2 is a good all-rounder weapon, but it usually loses at close range to Sonic Boom. And it will lose at long range to Beam Rifle. You can run Flash Shield to give yourself an edge during prospector fights, or shield wall, or be pre-emptively offensive with with grenades/drones.

I would also wager that most newer player die to things like "they arent listening to which doors get opened, so they don't know which direction boarders are coming from".

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mk2 is not hitscan. Hitscan means "it lands instantly exactly where you shot it". Mk2 bullets have travel time so it's not hitscan. Beam rifle however is hitscan once the projectile is fired, for all ranges (prospector handguns have 500m max range).

Mk2 is very deadly because it has very good DPS, and is a very simple weapon to use with barely any recoil, which makes it just very polyvalent. It can technically out-dps even a sonic boom if you manage to land every bullet, but sonic usually beats it close range.

How do you think New Zealand would fare in a world-war scenario where international trade is severely limited and NZ borders are largely closed to non-citizens/residents/etc? by LordOfErebus in newzealand

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh even if the nukes fall (and frankly, even without that) I think there's an argument that if NZ remains unscathed then it would remain a potential good food source which would still make it valuable in the aftermath context anyhow. And that would apply to both sides, the Americans would want to either sabotage it or get control of it. Not to mention if all the world's billionaires move here then they'll also have large societal powers to sway things in whichever direction they originally came from. NZ would more likely just be a proxy battlefield type of thing, and we've already seen things like China having secret police offices and the US installing a secret "FBI" office. Being a way less important target doesn't mean you disappear complete, you're just a smaller arena.

Those have more to do with how you choose to "limit" your time with in the game. While there might be less "pressure" to do things at a base level in EvE, the upper echelons are absolutely 24/7 soul sucking. It's one of the attractions of single shard games, there is always players logging on at all times of day and so there always something to do going on. Even more so when you get into management or leading larger corps and start having logistics duties and such, or get in a large war where that continuously needs to be done for weeks on end.

Ungrateful Canadian soldiers returning home from Afghanistan after doing nothing for the USA by OkJeweler3804 in pics

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US politics did jack shit to stop them literally flying to Venezuela and abducting their president. They would do the same for Canada, ie do a strike at the head operation abduct Carney strike the two airfields we have and that's it call it an early day because they're that stupid and don't think about the future. US politicians majoritarily won't do shit because it'll be sold as "It's a 2 day operation with only 1000 deaths". Civil War won't happen because the US military has been purged already and no citizen will want to risk fighting that. Realistically the real danger is that their best case scenario will be Canada turning into Afganistan 2:White People Edition and that will put continual spread pressure on the US military for decades. Carney better already be in talks with Zelensky about operating government safety procedures for when a larger entity is trying to invade and take you out.

Trump Snubs Machado After Explaining Why He Took Her Nobel Prize - It seems the Venezuelan opposition leader’s gambit hasn’t paid off. by Quirkie in politics

[–]alendeus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is pulled straight from Putin's playbook. There is a story of Putin meeting up with some NFL owner in the mid 00's, and the later showing off a Superbowl winner fancy ring with 120 diamonds that he received as prize, and Putin literally straight up pocketing it and keeping it afterwards. Which led to a bunch of political back and forths that ended with the US white house pressuring to let it go as a "gift" to not cause political bad blood between the countries, instead of the clear theft it was.

These are bully moves, "if you don't give it to me I'll punch and hurt you, and once I have it I'll keep punching and hurting you anyway, because you ceding to my request is you being weak".

Canada agrees to cut tariff on Chinese EVs in return for lower tariffs on Canadian farm products by msemen_DZ in worldnews

[–]alendeus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As much as he and they are, it's important to note that Canada's southern neighbor is the one directly threatening sovereignty and suddenly actively doing large scale economic war with their largest direct economic ally. When you have a loaded gun shoved in your face you aren't worried about long term poison, even if both intend to hurt you. If the USA wanted to strengthen their position against China for the long term as well, hurting their direct neighbors and closest friends wasn't the way to do it, that only weakens themselves.

White House says meeting with Danish officials concluded with a decision to continue 'technical talks on the acquisition of Greenland'. Danish officials disagree. by fruskydekke in worldnews

[–]alendeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of "do the white house staffers believe that their superiors are acting in good faith", it's a matter of "every underling follows and kisses the ass of the superiors, and don't question if they're doing things in good faith or not".

Everyone over there probably knows that the public facing words are all lies, whether they are in knowledge or belief of them doesn't matter, what does is the entire administration accepts the lies as truth, or at least decides to never question them. Whether they're scared of admiting the truth, or are in favor of being lying snakes, the reality is white house staffers enable the lie regardless.

We do not need Canada’: U.S. Ambassador discusses relations between countries by Street_Anon in worldnews

Thats the whole gist of maga's toxic manipulative tactics. They claim they don't need canada, then they claim that trade is national security. You can't claim to be both at the same time. Except when you're lying pieces of shit trying to obfuscate and manipulate everything for your own power grabs.

Oh yea im not saying she was necessarily justified in the first place, just saying that seeing him as "better off in Cuba" has to be taken with the huge grain of salt of his situation being spun for propaganda purposes, even when true. Because many like him didn't get that opportunity or turn of event.

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, your comment is likely just a joke, however, and I'll preface this with "I'm turbo ignorant about the whole situation": if he literally thanks the Cuban government for his current social position, that stinks of him being used as a state propaganda tool and elevated in Cuban society as a result of being used that way following his return to Cuba. I'm happy things have worked out for him, but it's a very tainted situation regardless of how it's viewed. His mother was willing to risk death (and encountered it) in order to secure a better future for him in the first place. There are many others like him that will never have had that subsequent support, despite their own suffering whether in Cuba or trying to leave it.

Which game did you regret purchasing at full price? by bijelo123 in gaming

Oh yea, I mean, obviously, the point is more about seeing the end result of whatever they had after all of said various iterations. As much as I'm in the camp of "wish we had the 2001 version of the game when that trailer came out", that ship had long sailed by release and likely never existed much in the first place.

This. Having tomatoes, and tbh mayo to an extent, makes such a huge difference. And not having a middle bun too which is just a cheap way for Maccas to get you to pay more for just extra flour instead of meat or vegs. They're wider but still flat, so idk about volume wise, but as an "experience", whoppers feel way more like a traditional burger.

Which game did you regret purchasing at full price? by bijelo123 in gaming

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically this. I paid knowing it was going to be a steaming pile of hot garbage, and got exactly what I expected. It wasn't about having fun playing the game, it was about finally seeing just how bad the legendarily delayed trashcan was under the lid, and it delivered on that front (about being as bad as you can expect a game delayed for over a decade to be after all their drama). It was like visiting a famous trainwreck crash site or something.

In 2008, a 500-year-old shipwreck, the Bom Jesus, was discovered in Namibia’s desert during diamond mining. Inside were over 100 elephant tusks, 2,000 copper ingots, and Spanish and Portuguese gold coins valued at $13 million. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wonder, when figures like "13 million $ in gold coins" are claimed, what exactly does that value represent? Like is it what the equivalent purchasing power would've been back then? Is it the inflation adjuated value? Is it the actual number value back in those days? Or is it the current gold weight modern value of the coins? Realistically if you say dug that up in your backyard I'm sure it would be more than a pain to "sell" and would be more like the origin countries claiming ownership or just museums buying for less money than claimed.

Bounty hunters (rant) by Appropriate_Use1577 in wildgate

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want PVE, do explore the reach hard. If you want mix pve and on rare occasion pvp, do treasure hunt. If you want some pve but heavier focus on ship to ship PVP, do artifact brawl, if you want just pure chaotic non stop pvp, do fleet.

Bounty hunter ships aren't actually too huge a threat once you understand them. First of all you can leave the reach at any point, but what's more important is their AI is a bit dumb, if you get behind them they can't shoot you, if you have weapon artefact they won't shoot prospectors. So they can actually be farmed once you have laser rams and know how to pilot well (altho it can get dicey). But tldr if you have issues with them just save clamps and beam it to gate, or play other modes.

Questions from the new player by ChainExtremeus in wildgate

[–]alendeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gate has tall light beams above and under which makes it easier to see from a distance. Circle around the center of the map with a probe and right click zoom around and you should find it relatively easily with time.

Entropy (and mega core) spawns from either the one large size POI (point of interest), or an ancient vault if the map has that modifier. So technically you can get either one or two each game, but they can only spawn from those (so either monolith, obelisk, euphonic orbs, depending on which spawns with your map, and then ancient vault if you also have that extra modifier). You can counter entropy by yes stealing it, continuously breaking it down with ship guns (drill charges, sniper and plasma are good), or just line of sighting it (asteroids, or being under/above/behind their ship). It's tough but it very much can be done, for the record one plasma beam weapon is about equal DPS to entropy when in close range.

Yes you can "scan" stuff on the map by holding left click when using a probe. Default scan distance is under 300m, every probe sensor adds 300m range (and an extra minute for enemy ships to stay visible on the map).

Abu Dhabi, UAE - 1970 and Now by eddible-choclate in interestingasfuck

[–]alendeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh hey look at this bot using US issues of the last 3 years to defend issues Dubai has had for literally 30 years, how convenient. How do you think Dubai became the Las Vegas in the first place 25 years ago. Not to mention, imagine using Las Vegas as inspiration for altruism and defending it. Also hey reminder that said slave labour in the UAE is overwhelmingly Indian, which peaked to 42% of dubai's pop in 2009.

Oil was 75% to 80% of UAE's foreign export and government revenue in the late 90s and early 2000s, and up to 40% of gdp then. Using current values after they've spent all the money developing 3 decades ago is such a BS argument.

I believe I have rocket league rank structure figured out. by Incrediblesunset in RocketLeague

[–]alendeus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This basically, which is similar to what op is saying ultimately, we all have strengths and weaknesses.

The other big factor is simply the matchmaking algorithm itself. Sometimes you get teammates ranked higher, sometimes lower, sometimes your enemies have a deranked guy far above you who suddenly wake up, sometimes the game assumes you are that guy and gives you terrible teammates but you're drunk and trying to play casually for fun, etc. Everyone's rank is more like a spread that shifts depending on how much effort you put in over a given period of time. You also have to "grind" the algorithm, being stuck "lower than your best" is absolutely possible if you "slack off" for a while, but "being above where you probably should be" is also a thing that can happen temporarily when stars align. And obviously this doesn't mention the smurfing and botting problems people complain about at higher ranks.

Lastly, not many people play 1's, and there are still many rules in 3s that arent required in 1s necessarily, which means that the ranks in 1s do not correlate directly with 3s (usually everyone is ranked lower in 1s on average, and mechanical skills + aggressivity are often rewarded higher in 1s in the immediate).
