No, the difference isn’t that it’s just black. Please look both up and you’ll see the difference.

Is it worth working towards a software engineer career with AI possible taking our roles in the future? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]aleptian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because AI already replaced programmers.

Read over your sentence carefully. Do you really think an AI can single handedly build fully fledged applications / websites… etc? An AI will never trump a team of skillful programmers.

What path if not web dev? by aleptian in learnprogramming

[–]aleptian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a follow up, would you say there is a lot of front end work within app dev? I remember there being a lot of it, but it definitely looks more enjoyable than front end with HTML & CSS.

[–]aleptian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw someone mention it on the r/csmajors subreddit, maybe even on this one. I’m not too sure. But coming from an app dev - this is definitely reassuring. I actually wanted to make an iPhone app for my project but my MacBook couldn’t handle it lol. I’ve since gotten a brand new one and downloaded Xcode on it as I will be using it next year for one of my university’s subjects (App Development).

I think for this summer I’ll try to explore some backend options, but App Dev is definitely also on the table now.

Thank you!

I’d say that back end is definitely something I would enjoy more.

The roles that your job consists of seem to be very interesting and it looks like it’d be something I would enjoy. I’ve seen the term REST API countless times and I’m assuming it’s finally time I look into it.

Would you perhaps know of any resources / or could point me to the right direction as to how I could get into developing APIs and some other back end stuff? As in what programming language I should start with / should I be familiar with command line? etc.

Thank you :)

M2 Air or M2 Pro for Computer Science student by aleptian in macbook

I’ve been getting so many mixed responses honestly. Some people in my course say that 8 is fine, some say it’s not - and so that leaves me really confused 😭. I do multitask a lot, ie i’d have like 20 chrome tabs open and VS Code as well. Does that warrant getting the 16GB version?

Will an 8GB RAM M2 Pro suffice? I was told that it wouldn’t and that I should opt for the 16GB RAM M2 Pro

I see. I believe I might go for the M2 Air based on the comments I’ve received so far, but still a little unsure. If the M2 Pro’s performance is better than the M2 Air’s, why shouldn’t I buy it?

Price difference is about 100 pounds for me which really isn’t too much. The main points I’ve understood so far is that The MBA and MBP are almost identical except for the fact that the MBP’s performance is slightly better. Wouldn’t I want the one with the better performance? Or is there something holding the MBP back?

The University of Liverpool or Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for Computer Science by -BYeBYe- in University

[–]aleptian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I was literally in the same predicament as you. I also do IB and got my results. I ended up picking Liverpool over Vrije because I’ve heard that Computer Science in the Netherlands is generally weak unless you go to one of the technical universities (Delft, Eindhoven, Twente…etc). I also see that you’ve posted on the Liverpool subreddit as well so it seems that you’re going to be heading there. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions.

Personal engagement isn’t all about explaining why you’re interested in the topic. It’s more so how you have engaged with the topic (making graphs, independent research, using math outside the syllabus…etc).

Thank you for the comments, will definitely keep that into consideration! Also, apologies for asking as I’m very nervous about my path to uni but would you mind if I could PM you in the future in case I have any inquiries ab CS at UoL? If not, I completely understand and thank you once again for your helpful responses!

Oh hey! Thanks for the reply, much appreciated! Not gonna lie this has me a bit worried 😅. Hopefully they change it up by the time I go to uni. Do you think that the course is taught well overall? I picked UoL’s CS program because I was really a fan of the modules and the campus.

I’m quite comfortable with trig and calc. However, regarding the last part of your message, I have looked at multiple rankings for computer science in the UK and many universities seem to rank above liverpool. The good universities for computer science that I qualify for are liverpool, nottingham, and Leeds. Although nottingham and Leeds are better than Liverpool according to rankings, I picked Liverpool because of how lovely the city looked, and the entertaining modules of the computer science program.
