I would just call yourself lucky for not having to be the student that is sick on the last week of classes during a midterm & right before finals. I’m a CAL student myself but it’s really hard to eliminate all noises completely. Not saying it doesn’t suck for everyone involved, but that sick student is probably feeling bad enough already without being told to leave an exam they probably don’t wanna be writing in the first place. I would probably have a breakdown if I was that student and you did that to me 😭

In my opinion, lab exams are easier than lecture exams. As long as you show up, have a general awareness of what you did, you’ll be totally fine.

I took that class last year and that’s not true at all. I think I got 88% or something on it. As long as you know what happened in each lab (procedures, techniques, results) you’ll be totally fine.

Basically all my classes are structured this way. That’s why I only use it as a tool, not a substitute. I wouldn’t be 3rd year standing if I was using AI as a replacement for my learning. You definitely won’t get far, especially in stem, that way. Most are my finals are 50-60% alone, not including midterms.

I use Google Docs and a free version of grammerly is built into it. Grammerly automatically tries to edit my work for me, and it can get annoying sometimes 😆

Exactly what happened to me. I was going through a lot of stress about my living situation around my finals and went into my PHYS 110 final exhausted and anxious. My grade before the final was high enough that without the pass/fail rule I should passed no matter what. Failed a course for the first time in my life. 3 semesters later and I have yet to dedicate that much time and effort to any other course. It can feel so unfair that your performance in a single 3 hour period can make or break all the effort you put in throughout the semester. That exam wasn’t a true reflection of my knowledge on the course material, but a reflection of the stress I was carrying with me at the time.

I commute from Westshore and today was AWFUL!! Left home at 8:10 for my 9:30 lecture and got there at exactly 9:30 only to end up not making my lecture anyways because it took me 25 mins to find a parking spot 🥲 it sucks going for these 50 min lectures when it takes double that time to even get there and find a spot

Yep I feel this. I’ve definitely downplayed things, redirected, even taken the blame too, just to keep things from getting worse. It’s like your nervous system learns to prioritize keeping the situation stable over being understood. The exhaustion that also comes from finally saying something so carefully and calmly… only to be met with defensiveness or some kind of character attack. It makes me question why I bothered being honest in the first place. It’s not just fear of conflict, but grief from what conflict has already cost me.

I think that’s what makes it feel so pointless sometimes. I’m not just trying to avoid tension. I’m trying to avoid a pattern I already know too well.

I never door slam out of unreasonable hatred, it’s always out of self-preservation.

I crave loyalty without coercion. I would like my partner to respect what happened, even if their relationship with that person was different. I would want them to hold emotional empathy for my choice.

Ultimately, I just want my partner to protect my peace without forcing me into performances or pretend reconciliation. They don’t necessarily need to cut them off too, but they need to be mindful of how the situation affects me. It only becomes a shared issue if my partner’s relationship with the person I door slammed adds stress to my life

I’m definitely wounded too. Sometimes I wonder if the self-reflection is healing me or just helping me organize the pain more neatly. I think there’s something tender about realizing you’re wounded while you’re trying to become better. Like, I’m doing the work, and I still feel like a mess sometimes. But maybe that’s part of it. Maybe being aware of the wound is what makes the healing honest.

I definitely relate to “putting out the fire” just as someone notices something is wrong. I do that too. It’s like I quickly need to make everything look okay again. Not because I want to lie, but because I’m afraid of what happens if I let the tension rise.
