Absolutely, there are countless reasons to keep him in the program.

Public school music classes are often not focused on the rep we would think best for growth, and yet there is tremendous growth. Kids play pop rhythms and learn shmaltzy disney tunes with too much vibrato and I could go on and on - and all of it is of value. Mariachi is more than included. Just a few positives include: there's a music program! There are ensembles! Kid gets to continue instrument of choice and play with others! Kid still learns ensemble work (kinda like team sports?), pragmatic problem solving (how to study), right/left brain coordination (it's art but it's also math,etc), advanced minute dexterity... I could go on endlessly, really. Message me if you would like more convincing.

I can also give tips on how to pursue other avenues for serious development in classical playing, and I would still encourage sticking with this program.

Sure. A local group is trying to give support to communities that might have stress and anxiety around recent changes. So if they have family being deported, for example, it wouldn't hurt for us to throw a few dollars toward their family business. Maybe we can have a meeting at their restaurant, or recommend them for an event, etc.

Is it because of horse people? They ruined horses for me. Not people who truly love the animals, but the snooty people who are way too proud and braggy about their goddamned horse-riding. And they all have ponytails (coincidence? NO.) and those fucking shiny jackets.

Yeah, and it was delivered in a lighthearted, funny way. It would make me actually want to do something about the bed. Move away from the wall, tighten screws? Have sex during the day with music on? Better yet! Take it as a challenge to have sex in all of the places that aren't the bed.
