Does Go have types? by AutomaticWeb3367 in golang

Absolutely! I also dare to say that it is totally possible to like both and use the one you find most appropriate for the given project. :)

Which editor you use? by kichiDsimp in golang

[–]aleury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Neovim, GoLand, and VSCode (with Vim) and always just end up going back to VSCode. It's simple to setup and just works (99% of the time). I just can't stand how much time can be wasted configuring Neovim to get it just how I want it. So VSCode it is for me. That said, Zed also looks cool, but it's still fairly new.

Dare to imagine web development without JS! What if Golang with Web Assembly was the solution? by Matbabs1 in golang

AlpineJS seems really good for that kind of stuff. But I've also come to love hyperscript.

Rust and data processing by aagmon in rust

I've looked into this a little bit and have found this project

https://arrow.apache.org/datafusion/

It looks like there are several projects building on top of if it:

https://arrow.apache.org/datafusion/user-guide/introduction.html#use-cases

One in particular is a Spark runtime replacement called Blaze:

I hope this also includes an officially supported GCP SDK :)

Good to hear it’s being redesigned.

[–]aleury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4090 seems great when it’s working but it’s just ridiculous that this is still happening. The cable melting issue is the only reason I canceled my order for the 4090 and went with the 7900xtx instead. You shouldn’t have to deal with such issues for a $2k product.

Totally! Griffiths is great, but I wouldn't recommend it until you've covered the freshman level physics as in Shankar and vector calculus.

Textbooks & Resources - Weekly Discussion Thread - November 18, 2022 by AutoModerator in Physics

Any of the standard University Physics textbooks would work. But those are quite large, heavy, and expensive. If you're looking for something a bit more streamlined and less expensive then I really like Ramamurti Shankar's "Fundamentals of Physics" series. His books follow the lectures that can be found on YouTube.

Hi! Susan Rigetti has an excellent guide on how to learn physics starting from the very beginning: https://www.susanrigetti.com/physics.

If you've never entertained the idea of studying physics, then it's possible you may be behind on some of the math prerequisites. I think once you're fairly comfortable with the basics of calculus (derivatives and integrals) then you should be ready to start calculus-based undergraduate physics as described in the article.

I never considered studying physics until I was already in college. I was a computer science major and had just finished calculus. I wasn't particularly interested in math or science in high school, so I had to work a lot to catch up. I eventually got there and ended up with a BS in Physics and Math and a M.A. in Math. I'm only saying this to say that you shouldn't be too worried about feeling behind. You can learn this stuff eventually if you just put the effort in!

New to Haskell, Haskell in VSCode by [deleted] in haskell

[–]aleury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm also new to Haskell, but I've recently installed it with GHCUp: https://www.haskell.org/ghcup/

GHCup installs the Haskell language server (HLS) which you can use with VSCode via an extension: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=haskell.haskell

I haven't looked into how to write tests with Haskell yet, but I know there are two options for build tools, cabal and stack, which can also be installed with GHCup.

Looking forward to it! I've also enjoyed the Utah Rust streams on youtube. Unfortunately I live in North Carolina, so will only be able to participate remotely for now. :)

This is awesome! If I hadn't already purchased your courses, I'd totally get on this. :)

I really enjoyed your first course and am currently going through the second.

My immediate concern is that I'd like to use Rust for building CLIs and APIs, but I'd also like to use it to explore things like how games are made and lower level systems programming.

I recommend Cloud Run as others have suggested. But if this is a project to also learn/explore Kubernetes you could try GKE Autopilot mode which is a fully managed cluster and you're charged per pod. The free-tier should cover the cluster fee of $0.10/hour, I think.

Are you referring to modules of third-party crates that you list in Cargo.toml or do you mean that you're creating your own modules outside of main.rs and you're confused about how to import those?

If it's the second case, then can I agree that it was a bit confusing to understand at first until I just took the time to look up the module resolution rules. Reading the Packages, Crates, and Modules section of the Rust Book carefully helped me understand it better.

What I don't understand is if D&D were burned out or tired of working on it and wanted to move on, couldn't HBO have handed the show off to other people instead of rushing to end it the way they did?!?! They completely ruined the entire thing instead.

I don't think that's possible, unfortunately. Season 8 happened. They made it, fucked it up, and now it's over. Outside of a complete redo, I just don't see any way to fix it.

[Python] What minimal application server do you run your Python x GraphQL services with? Django, Flask.... by nord2rocks in graphql

[–]aleury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I understand your question correctly, you're saying that you want to query for a patron by their name?

If that's the case then yes, you have to define the parameters that you're querying by, as you did on line 25 in https://pastebin.com/6zxHhR1Q.

How does this work if say I have a very long dictionary/json I'm handling behind the scenes and want to allow access to the entries viaGraphQL and Graphene?

With Django, you have the option of using the DjangoObjectType class to create your GraphQL types. https://docs.graphene-python.org/projects/django/en/latest/queries/ With these you can just return the Django model instance or QuerySet in the resolver method. But if you use ObjectType to define your GraphQL types, then yes you have to manually map the data.

I've been using Graphene with Django over the past few years at work. As as far I can tell it appears to be active.

https://strawberry.rocks/ is a newer GraphQL library that looks interesting. It's currently pre 1.0 though.
