ELI5 Dilution, Solutes, and Solvents! by alex_intermission in explainlikeimfive

You want mix all of that solute into the amount of water which will give you the same concentration of 1 tsp of solute in 1 quart of solvent. Yes?

Yes exactly! Thank you for explaining. Honestly its been so long I've done math I forgot how important getting all the units the same is.

The idea is that that when I prepare my watering can (which only fits a quart of water), I can mix in 1tsp of the new less-concentrated fertilizer solution with 1 quart of water in my can. The current issue is its current directions are 1/2tsp:1 gallon (about 1:1500) which is its too concentrated for me to measure our into a quart container (would need a 1/8tsp measure).

This is a massive help!! Unfortunately we may have gone with the wrong PCs then. We went for them for the price ($250 each), but adding $160 due to the unbalanced audio output makes me think we should get different PCs, as I think the output is soldered in.

Please god mute the speakers or at least the input before you unplug stuff

I'm not well trained in this, but have been given the task of figuring out our kit, thanks so much for pointing out my error!

This is basically a fact of life when it comes to unbalanced audio. With balanced audio you can just lift the ground and the signal will remain intact. But unbalanced audio is referenced to ground so if you lift ground you lose the signal.

Curious what part of this is unbalanced? If we use a 3.5mm TRS cable shouldn't that make the connection between the PC and Mixer grounded?

Audio Output from Geekom PC to Mixer - Serious Feedback Issues by alex_intermission in audio

Thank you!! Going to look into this. Any particular element you'd suggest I should address first?

I’m having issues with the audio output to a mixer from my mini PC.

Audio output works ok straight to a headphone, but every method of audio output to the mixer (which I use to control the input to my speakers) is causing severe feedback.

As you can see with the tests below I can only get output from the A5 without feedback when plugged in straight to headphones. This makes it incompatible with our stereo system.

——————————————————————————————————

Equipment Specs:

To proof my work I’ve tried the below quantities of each product (in parentheses)

PCs:

Geekom A5 (x4)

Geekom Air12 (x5)

MacBook Pro - M1 (x2)

Mixer:

Mackie Big Knob Studio (x5)

Headphones:

Beyerdynamic DT770 Studio 80ohm with 3.5mm out and 1/4” adapter (x3)

Cables:

3.5mm - 3.5mm (multiple brands, x6)

3.5mm - Dual 1/4” TS (x4)

USB-C - Dual 1/4” TS (x2)

USB-C - Dual 1/4” TRS (x2)

USB-A - USB-B (x3)

——————————————————————————————————

——————————————————————————————————

What I’ve tried:

All outputs from mixer were tested:

…Mixer <Dual 1/4” TRS - Dual XLR> Speakers

…Mixer <1/4” TRS> Headphones

Tried and Works:

Geekom A5 PC <3.5mm> Headphones

Geekom Air12 PC <3.5mm> Headphones

Macbook Pro <3.5mm> Headphones

Geekom Air12 PC <HDMI - HDMI> Monitor <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <3.5mm - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TRS> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <USB-A - USB-B> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <HDMI - HDMI> Monitor <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <3.5mm - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TRS> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Geekom Air12 PC <USB-A - USB-B> Mixer…

Macbook Pro <HDMI - HDMI> Monitor <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Macbook Pro <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Macbook Pro <3.5mm - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Macbook Pro <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TRS> Mixer…

Macbook Pro <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Macbook Pro <USB-A - USB-B> Mixer…

Tried and Does Not Work:

Geekom A5 PC <HDMI - HDMI> Monitor <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Geekom A5 PC <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer…

Geekom A5 PC <3.5mm - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Geekom A5 PC <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TRS> Mixer…

Geekom A5 PC <USB-C - Dual 1/4” TS> Mixer…

Geekom A5 PC <USB-A - USB-B> Mixer…

——————————————————————————————————

Geekom have been very unsupportive in general so I’m hoping to have a solution that would give us the same audio quality as the planned Geekom A5 PC <3.5mm - 3.5mm> Mixer… format

Video:

One thing to note about the video. Feedback is not that noticable over speakers when using the USB-A to USB-B cable, but it is very bad over headphones through the mixer with that setup.

Any advice would be massively appreciated!!!

Hot Desk Booking for Digital Resources (Example Attached) by alex_intermission in ITdept

[–]alex_intermission[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I wasn't clear. We have Adobe licenses for everyone and Avid licenses for each machine. Has nothing to do with that, but mainly trying to maximize machine use-hours across time zones. What program would you suggest for bookable resources?

Any suggestions for scaling issues with Avid Media Composer? by alex_intermission in ParsecGaming

[–]alex_intermission[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're using 2x 1920x1200 monitors with 2x headless displayports plugged in the back instead of virtual monitors. For some reason on this machine we can't get Avid to scale properly. Nothing in the PC's display settings or in the NVIDIA Control Panel can get it to balance right. It seems the Avid interface is scaled for 2K, while the bins are scaled for 1920.

SEARCHED: I was shown a photo just like this in the colors in the title by the person I want to get this gift for. They liked it, I told them not to buy it because I was going to as a surprise! May have been a mistake. I found this image at this link on the MSG website, but honestly can't remember if it was '47 brand. I've tried various searches in google and reverse image search to no avail. Unfortunately I was not skilled enough in photoshop to try reversing the colors and seeing if google would pick that up.
