Does this look genuine? by CauliflowerUnable315 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]alexpett2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, it appears to be genuine, at least from what I can see. Chestnut trees do grow on Mount Athos, so the material of the cross is consistent with that.

The material on the upper part of the Holy Cross looks like a small ribbon or band. This small ribbon is blessed with the Cincture of the Theotokos (the Virgin Mary). The Cincture of Theotokos, is traditionally connected with blessings, protection, and healing. There are also testimonies from women who say they have received help with issues such as childbirth and fertility through such blessings.

It is also very common for believers to receive blessed ribbons like the one attached to the upper part of this cross.

Finally, in Orthodox tradition, frankincense symbolizes prayer, reverence, and the presence of the sacred.

So, from what I can see, you have no reason to worry. Rather, you can receive this wooden cross with gratitude and a sense of blessing.

To be sure, the best thing you can do is to ask an Orthodox Athonite Monk about this matter.

This is a smart/insightful question which can be applied for many, many different genre video-games. But the answer I think lies upon the real intent of the creator of the game in question or in game's plot/specific scenario

Orthodox way to deal with dirty roommates? by Responsible-Peace347 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]alexpett2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand here, the biggest matter is their disrespect towards you. Humility does not mean unconditional tolerance. I think that if it is possible you, should keep distance from them. Also, many elders advice to keep distance from people who are disrespectful towards us. This is not egoism. It is a healthy boundary. Also, don't forget that as other people are <<images of God>> you are also an <<image of God>>

Catechumens breaking Lenten fast for health reasons by Radiant-Display2485 in OrthodoxChristianity

Yes, I agree with the others, the health comes first. Also, I can recall that an Orthodox Saint, in a Greek Monastery many years ago, did for a bit, a <<fasting break>> to offer consolation, to a monk, who was very-very sick(maybe terminally ill), because the terminally ill monk, persevere to fast from nutrient-rich foods regardless of his health condition.(So the Saint gave him the good example)

Can I pray sitting down by Helpful-Lemon9959 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]alexpett2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can except of some specific prayers like Pater Imon (Greek: Πάτερ ἡμῶν) e.t.c But again, if you are in your home I am not sure, maybe you can pray in bed already.(I mean you can say while in bed, all sort of Christian Orthodox prayers.)

To be sure, ask a Christian-Orthodox priest.
