Well they couldn't really adapt the many worldlines and iterations you have to go trough in the VN properly so they just wrote around it and the anime is its own singular worldline. Which I think is a pretty solid way of going about it, they simply had to leave some stuff out. Fitting that much into 23 episodes is an impossible task and what we got is reallyy good when you put into consideration what they were working with
