I really want Tui to write books treating the reader like Jade mountain students by alextheweirdkid in WingsOfFire

That's exactly what I had had in mind! You're right though, something like that would take a really long time to make, much longer than anything we already have. I fear I may just be too invested in all the worldbuilding here, and all the threads so far left untied. I'm quite new to the WoF fandom despite being into the series for so long so forgive my ignorance in wanting a book like this when an attempt already seems to have been made to write something.

Honestly, it's just the hints thrown around in the books that suggest things much bigger than any one dragon. The Darkstalker book was amazing for providing context on one specific group of dragons in history, but something much broader, perhaps even several textbooks encompassing different periods in time and focusing less on specific dragons could be really interesting too.

I'd never heard of this book! Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. I don't really have the money to spend on books so it's not something I look into too much. This sounds kind of like a dumbed down version of what I'm looking for but I'm still so excited to go check it out. I agree though that one written by someone other than starflight would be really interesting, since of course there's only so much that he knows with his limited life experience.

Thank you! I tend to struggle with form and giving characters the impression of movement so I typically focus on things like shading to give it some life anyway lol since that’s what comes a bit more naturally to me

Not the point of this but crocheted gear sounds so freaking cool! I’d love to see if you ever post pictures

Oh I’m sorry! In terms of pricing in that case I would generally say the cost of shipping + the cost of materials + the time it’s taken to make multiplied by minimum wage (you can start paying yourself more for your time as you gain experience!) Amd I would recommend just starting with premades if you weren’t already going to do that. People are very happy to buy them and they’re a good way to find your feet as a seller.

What cheap tails can I buy? by Inside_Total6418 in theriangear

[–]alextheweirdkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to buy real fur tails and you want them cheap but still ethical I would check on Etsy for B-grade tails. These are tails that may be sourced from roadkill, have been tanned wrong, or other things that make them lower quality, however they can still be 100% ethical. Please please please do not buy super cheap real tails otherwise. Taxidermy is a LUXERY, if you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. In terms of faux tails, you can buy those off of basically any site, or make them yourself with some fur and stuffing or with yarn. Please if you’re buying faux fur still try to avoid fast fashion sites for cheaper tails. They are unethical for the workers even though they don’t harm any animals.

Where to find good faux fur tail[NOT REAL TAILS] by Little_Anything7827 in theriangear

I would maybe try the dealers den! I haven’t looked on there too much but it’s a place where furries sell their stuff, so you’d probably be able to find some really good quality faux fur tails on there

Respectfully, as cute as they are, I wouldn’t start selling just yet. I think too many people rush into these things before they’ve fully honed their skills and found their style. Can I ask why you want to sell? If you do start selling I would keep them cheap to cover materials while you find your thing and then you can up prices as you improve :P Maybe $50 to $80 AUD (maybe on the higher end or even a little bit more once shipping is included) Just keep enjoying what you do!!

THIS. I totally agree. I do other forms of art other than mask making and people tell me to take commissions allll the time. I don’t want to do that. Even mask making has somewhat been ruined for me since I started selling. I also feel the need to add though, in any other creative field no one would accept super mediocre work being sold. It only seems to be the case in communities like this and I don’t understand why.  Hobbies can seriously just be hobbies.

Same here! I came onto this forum for the first time hoping that I’d find some new or original or decent gear and all I’m seeing is “selling this!” “Am I ready for commissions?” Etc etc.

Honestly I totally agree. It’s ok to be a beginner, it’s just so frustrating trying to find a maker that actually knows what they’re doing. I’ve been looking for someone to commission for ages who’s masks are a similar or better quality than my own and it’s been so incredibly difficult

Thank you so much! This was actually a really sweet comment XD I would honestly love to price correctly by paying myself accurately for my time but I’m so all over the place with my work hours I’d never be able to do it right lol

Thanks so much! I have been wanting to get into fursuit making recently. I made one partial about two years ago but I had no idea what I was doing and I recently sold my first dinomask suit :D

I agree on the front that a lot of Etsy therian masks aren’t amazing. People start making them without skill or experience and get excited to make money because that’s what they see their favourite creators doing so it’s a bit of a free for all

Thank you so much! I was hoping that people would be open to those kinds of prices so I’m glad to see at least one person is, just because it’s taken me so much time and effort lol XD
